A RETIRED Turkish army corporal was reunited in Sofia with a Greek Cypriot he saved from execution during the 1974 invasion who was 16 at the time.
Turkish corporal Mehmet Mercan has been cooperating with Politis newspaper on a series of interviews concerning 1974.
He was the one who told the newspaper that Christakis Georgiou a Greek Cypriot who was listed as missing at the age of five, had been brought to Turkey alive and not seriously injured, and he believe the Georgiou was still alive.
Recently Politis decided to reunite Mercan with Costas Yiannakas, a Greek Cypriot that he saved during the invasion. Yiannakas is now a 50-year old father of five and a grandfather.

Politicians?
All they want to do is LINE THEIR POCKETS with MONEY!
OR YEAH I forgot!
AND also DOXA (EGOISM) as well!
There must be more stories like this!
I am sure NOT all Turkeys soldiers and military where under the thumb!
Some Turkish soldiers stopped my father sister who was fleeing Kyrenia from Ayios Amvrossious and the Turkish soldiers said to her GO to the English Bases and you will be safe:
So you see NOT all Turkish soldiers where the madmen and murderers depicted by some Greek Cypriot!
