Press attach? accuses president of ‘vindictive’ behaviour

A CAREER diplomat is accusing President Tassos Papadopoulos personally of terminating his services for no reason other than sheer vindictiveness.

Soteris Giorgallis, formerly press attach? at the Cyprus’ High Commission in London, claims he has been sacked for having attended a pro-Annan book presentation at the London School of Economics.

“This is not about me,” the former diplomat told the Sunday Mail yesterday. “It has broader ramifications. It is about tolerance of the other opinion, of dialogue,” he said
The author of the book, The referendum of 24 April 2004 and the solution to the Cyprus problem, is Takis Hadjidemetriou, a political figure known for his support of the UN blueprint....

I met Soteris Georgallis several times a few years ago. I thought he was a most genuine person who knew what diplomacy was all about, a real gentleman not like some of the jumped up "cowboy" Cypriot politicians we have to put up with.

there s often a huge difference between the opinions of professional diplomats and politicians.

i am not surprised that tpap sucked him, and that he sucked bc of his actions or opinions.

but , i have to say it was from his side completely unethical to give to the press things that people said in private conversations. the fact that he feels an injustice, doesnot justify him to react in that way....

on the other hand one could argue : if they will play dirty, then why shouldnt i as well?

The sooner we get rid of Papadopoulos the better for all of us. The most striking thing in this unfolding story are the confessions of close associates of Papadopoulos (Christofias, Lillikas, Pashiardes, Iacovou) who verified that this man is fascist-like in the way he makes decisions.

Normally, your argument would be very valid cypezokyli but with Papadopoulos around one has to consider what is normal and what is not. Sotos was dealt a terrible deal and he had to react. At least we all know now what kind of a man Papadopoulos is, thanks to Sotos.

BOYS ALL I know is that 99% of the Greek Cypriot who supported the Annan Yes vote where either EOKA B or had financially benefits behind it: Because anyone who had 1% of a brain knew that the Annan Plan was just a ploy to get Turkey in the EU and Greece and the UK off the hook:
As soon AS I hear someone say I voted Yes I ask them WHY and in the end it comes out they they had something corrupt behind it:
As for this Takis Hadjidemetriou, give me a few days and I will find out IF he is either EOKA B, Clerides bum chum, just a corrupt traitor or the 1% who had no clue about the Annan Plan:
Because as I said everyone tells me IN the Annan Plan I could go and live in Lapithos when I have read the plan 20 times and it said some will lose there properties:
So let me know who is right: The other joke is that the Annan Plan UNITED Cyprus where it really divided it into 2 state with one Central government:
I will get back to with this Takis character!
cheers
PS I am very luck:
Born in Australia with 33% of the family EOKA B, 33% Communists, 33% who wanted England and 1% like me who wanted Cyprus for Cypriots only!
So all I do is ring a relative or a government official!

Eagerly waiting to see what you will come up with on this character Takis. Of course you will take for granted anything you hear and suits the way you are thinking.

So you think EOKA B voted for the Annan Plan. May be your sources will tell you that EOKA B sprayed this Takis character with bullets, back in 1974.

honestly DP, to even consider the possibility that takis hatjidemitriou was an eoka b supporter is the least rediculous.

really Dp, why do you have to come up with the same things again and again?
This thread is about why Giorgallis got sacked for attending a reading event by Hadjidemetriou. This is not about who voted yes or no in the A-plan or who was EOKA supporter....

I disagree with you my friend, may who voted YES did so because they couldn't see a better solution coming in the future. As much as I don't like AMAN plan and I never did, I am still not sure if we are better off with a NO vote. Anan plan was at least a limited solution which is better than no solution at all. Trust me, next attempt to a solution will give to Cypriots less than before
