How do you, the Turkish Cypriot feel, when the Turkish Cypriot leadership demands Republic of Cyprus BENEFITS, such as a share in any oil found, or any other gain, the eligibility of which rests entirely on the 1960s partnership/agreements, and yet that same leadership disregards all RESPONSIBILITIES that come under those same agreements?
NB: Although the question aims Turkish Cypriots, as a topic it is open to all so feel free to participate regardless of ethnic background.
Regards, GR. |

One could ask you how you feel about taking all the benefits that the Republic of Cyprus gains as a recognised legitimate government as created by the 60's agreements whilst arguing that it does not have to meet any of those obligations of that same agreement you do not like (like Turkish being an official language of said state). Clearly you personally think it is ok for Greek Cypriot to gain all the benefits they can for Greek Cypriot by being recognised as legitimate under the 60's agreements but without having to honor any of the obligations of the same agreements, so one has to wonder at your asking this question of others without asking it of yourself?
As for (the currently still virtual) oil, the Turkish Cypriot claim to a right to also be able to benefit from Cypriot natural resources along with Greek Cypriot is not based on the 60's agreements but on the principal that both communities share Cyprus. This principal is included in the 60's agreements but from a Turkish Cypriot point of view is not a result of the 60's agreements but a principal that exits independently and with or without the 60's agreements. |

Well, to be honest, I'm bothered by the fact that we're trying to claim benefit from somebody else's work.
Yes, Cyprus is for both communities and any natural resources should definitely be shared in a united Cyprus...But we had no oil exploration research in the Mediterranean, we never made the right contacts with the right people to explore oil...Greek Cypriots, however, did and they got very close to start drilling for oil. And if I'm not wrong, they're exploring the area south of Cyprus, between Cyprus and Egypt. So it's not that they're going to drill in the north near Karpasia or Kyrenia. So...what makes us think that we deserve the fruits of what Greek Cypriots worked for?
Especially those in high positions in T R N C who claim that we should get a share of the oil that Greek Cypriots worked for, why don't you go and do your own research in the north shores and come up with your own oil instead of trying to suck up from someone else? Besides don't these people always claim that what's in the north is theirs and what's in the south is Greek Cypriot's? So what's wrong with Greek Cypriot exploring their south shores?
And the most tragic one of all is that Turkey is threating Greek Cypriots with almost war if they start drilling. As if they should have any say in what Greek Cypriots do in their own waters. |

| Mete please wake up to the subject and stop allowing yourself to be fooled into thinking that this is about oil ! This is about Tpap and his gov trying to antagonise Turkey into taking action and a pre-emtive strike against the so called Republic of cyprus so as to show the world how aggresive Turkey is . nothing more and nothing less |

And what evidence you have for this, or are you just pulling this out of your ...? Anyhow, if TPap wanted to piss Turkey off and get Turkey to attack, don't you think he would do something more obvious like start exploring oil in the north shores for example? Besides since when exploring the waters around your country for natural resources is a reason for another country to attack? It's one thing if the administration in the south were exploring the area between north Cyprus and Turkey. I could see in that scenario why Turkey might be pissed but exploring between Cyprus and Egypt, come on! Turkey owns the Mediterranean or something and I don't know about it? |

Chill out, man. It was a figure out speech, no need to take it literally. Instead of displaying your macho ego, why don't you answer my questions? Besides what propaganda am I subject to in Boston? I'm just curious to know. |

I see a big problem with the fact that most of the noise comes out of Ankara, and it always mentions "Turkey's and the Turkish Cypriot's rights", and our Turkish Cypriot companions does not say shit.
We are talking of exploration south of Cyprus and clearly Turkey will have not cut in that. What is there belongs to the Republic of Cyprus - and the Republic of Cyprus also belongs to the Turkish Cypriots, so yes as rights and obligations are matched if/when there is any value coming out of the sea it belongs to all Cypriots.
I think most Turkish Cypriots has fairly strong feelings about enosis - and with that Greece - and hopefully they can understand that most Greek Cypriot has at least as strong feelings about Turkey. When Turkey makes noise now it would compare to having Greece hinting that the oil belongs to them too - just ridiculous and with that follows that no Greek Cypriot listens to the noise; in one ear and out the other.
However, if the Turkish Cypriot leaders would say: Hold on now, for sure anoil does not belong to Turkey but to all Cypriots, then you would get people to listen. The fact that you do not is very disappointing. |

| I agree with pg on this one, but I would say any money found should also benefit the Turkish Cypriots...it sure as hell will speed up unification. |

Quote: The German Presidency calls on Turkey to refrain from threats against Cyprus Republic.
The German Presidency of the European Council calls on Turkey to avoid any action -such as threats- which could negatively affect the principle of good neighbourly relations and the process of peaceful settlement of disputes. |

Re mete you seem to forget that unfortunately the turkish cypriots in the eyes of the world do not exist otherwise we would not be even discussing thing's on this forum so untill the voice of the turkish cypriot is acknowledged them Turkey takes that role of voice for the people , it may be distatsfull to some but that is the current situation.
If the Greek Cypriots were drilling for oil in a united cyprus and it was not going to benefit the Turkish Cypriot , what do you think would happen ?
i ask you as you are sooooooooo clever |
