I'm really looking forward to the Jane Austen Season that's going to be shown on English TV...I'm actually quite excited, because, well for one I'm a bit of a 'Jane Austen' 'English Classics' nut and for two I'm in the middle of reading Persuasion (for the second time...:))and that is one of the stories that make up part of the Jane Austen Season, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks on the , albeit small, silver screen...
I found the advert for it on Youtube...

I'm also really looking forward to seeing 'Becoming Jane', the film about Jane Austens life..

Dashing Men, beautiful women, romance everywhere! What more could you want! :D |

| Ahh CR, well done for the reminder :flowers: I can't wait either. Mansfield Park is the first one to be shown on TV I think. I am looking forward to seeing Becoming Jane as well. Talking of Jane's my all time "classic" book has to be Jane Eyre, read that one? I recommend it...If you see film before I get around to it I'd love to hear what you think :) |

| Some say thay Mansfield Park was based on Godmersham Park which is just down the road from where I live. Jane Austen's brother owned Godmersham Park, she used to visit him there. Google it! |

| That is interesting Lewis, thanks for that, Godmersham Park is in Kent right? Have you visited Chatsworth House in Derbyshire? What a place.... |

No but I have been to some "stately" homes in Kent and a place called Attringham in Shropsire. The best place though was Buck House about 10 years ago.
Godmersham Park is between Ashford and Canterbury, it's a training school for opticians now. If you google it you will see that it was owned by a Mrs Tritton until about 20 years ago. The place was absolutely jammed with antique furniture that took several days to auction off when she died. I know about the furniture because the auction catalogue was in fact a hard back book and I managed to acquire one, I can't remember what the house contents fetched but it must have been millions. |

Your welcome Leyla, I thought you might be interested..;)
You know I haven't actually read Jane Eyre, although I did watch the film many many years ago and it looked pretty good. Did you watch the recent
television adaptation? Unfortunately I didn't... I only managed to catch the end...for some reason I kept forgetting it was on...
It seems like a great book! Was it written by Charlotte Bronte? I think I'm going to have to go book shopping and get me some new material to delve into soon... I like nothing better than to snuggle down with a good book...and this Jane Eyre seems like a pretty feisty character..
(Oh and I shall let you know about the film..I've made plans to watch it with my sister..really looking forward to it.. :) ) |

That's pretty cool Lewis... I do love visiting stately homes, especially when you find out that a period drama's been filmed there...I remember a few years back I visited a home somewhere around Somerset I think, and found out that parts of the Pride and Prejudice 1995 TV adaptation (Yes the one with sexy Collin Firth as Mr Darcy..;)) were filmed there...
I haven't ever visited Chatsworth house, but from what I've seen it sure does look amazing..I believe they filmed there for the recent Pride and Prejudice film... |

| It is indeed written by Charlotte Bronte and I did see the TV adaptation recently and really enjoyed it. Read the book first if you get the chance :) Ah yes Chatsworth is where they filmed parts of the new film, the estate is huge, as for the water feature at the back of the grounds..it's amazing and well worth going in Spring or early summer. CR, Mr Darcy wasn't in at the time though ;) |

Darn! Wouldn't it just have been great to see him emerging from the lake?Ahhh...Mr Darcy.... Okay CR snap out of it, your in the fantasy world again, time to get back to reality I think...
I definitely will read the book, the Bronte sisters wrote with such passion, I'm sure I'll love it.. :)
And I think I better visit Chatsworth as well, because for one I might be lucky and go on a day that Mr Darcy's in residents (I wish.. ), and for two because from your descriptions it sounds beautiful and I'm intrigued by that water feature... :) |

When I started reading Jane Eyre I couldn't put it down, actually I will read it again..it's been a while! Did you watch Mansfield Park last night? What did you think? It was different to the film from a few years ago but in a good way. I thought Edmond's mother was brilliant, especially at the end "do go and fetch me some lavender...Edmond find the scissors and accompany her" - classic match making - brilliant!
Northanger Abbey next week!
PS Chatsworth is stunning..inside and out. |

| I saw it too last night Leyla. It was really good, it was nice to see the former Eastenders bird speaking proper English for a change! |

Cypriota Rules: I looked up the website for Chatsworth House, and here is a link that explains more about the water features :)

I must confess I'd love to take a jet ski to that water feature...most improper and unladylike I know but still! |

Tell me about it, that was definitely quality match making that's for sure!
And did you see how fast she latched on to the romance? I Have to say I was impressed..I wish I was that observant sometimes... :bash:
What did you think of Billie Piper? I thought she was really good, in fact all the actors and actresses did a good job..but I know what you mean about zoe the 'Eastenders bird' Lewis, you half expected her to suddenly blurt out 'you ain't my mava'!
The only bad thing I'd say about it is, well I've not read Mansfield park before, and because of the limited time available, I got a bit confused about some of the characters and the story line sometimes, but again that was just because they didn't have enough time to tell the full story....I mean the full version of Pride and prejudice was 5 hours long! (And I know that because I sat and the watched the DVD with my sister, from start to finish with no breaks...that was a good day.. :D )
Bring on Northanger Abbey!! :D
