Is anyone seeing (has anyone else seen) it?
It is a fine show from South London, with the Moon high in the East in a completely clear sky.
What struck me was the range of colours when the Moon was partially eclipsed - dark brown through dark red to slate blue, with a thin white crescent on top which gave the impression that the Moon had an ice cap (now that would be a sensation ...).
Even with a pair of 10x50 binoculars on a tripod it is remarkable how the lunar mountains stand out - the surface is anything but smooth.
The Moon is now fully eclipsed and is a brick-red colour (in the depressingly light-polluted sky!) |

Never mind, YouTube comes to the rescue!
(After the over-exposed pictures at the start, it settles down nicely, showing the "ice cap" clearly ...).
There will be another total lunar eclipse in a year's time which will be fully visible from Germany (21 February 2008) :D |

There was also a significant event the previous night - the Moon passing in front of Saturn. Amazing photograph (I believe that the author is Sir Patrick Moore's sidekick). |

| I saw it at about 1.45 when it was a brick red colour, beautiful. ;-) |

I thought the ice at the poles were found but underground....If that makes sense? |

I always thought the Moon was inert - lumps of rock and dust. For about 12 years it was not thought to be so, but the latest thinking is that the interpretation of earlier measurements was wrong and is no ice on the surface (although it could be underground or at very low concentrations).
Surprisingly, the Moon does have an atmosphere! |

Don't quite get the tremors either. Is the moon still active or is it the same temperature right through to the core? |
