I keep getting the following error as I try to connect to Talk Cyprus:

Quote: phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

It happens a lot now, mostly in the mornings but seems to be more frequent now :? Anyone else experiencing this as well?

It happens to me as well on occasions. It happens when for some reason the database server that drives the forum is not available. It should be a transitory thing and retrying after a few minutes should clear the problem.

Mine too. Sometimes I have not been able to get on for a whole day or have been kicked out half way through.

An error like "Could not connect to the database" suggest that the server is losing incoming and/or outgoing data packets over the network and this of course equates to intermittent network disconnections of the server.

The most frequent reason for having such disconnections is one or more incorrectly configured shares (permissions) of server folders and/or drives. This is sometimes done accidentally in our haste to secure a recently attacked system.

Which OS is the server running under and what type of internet connection is it using?

zan, I have no idea but its all fine here on my site. :?
So I don't think its a server problem.
What error message does your Aussie friend get?

For technical details I'm afraid you will have to wait for erolz' answer.

I just had the 'connect to database' problem for about half an hour - have not had a problem for a long time...

I assume the site is hosted on shared hosting possibly with the database on a different server - and that on is maxing out on allowed number of database connections. Most likely it is some other sites on the shared hosting that is overloading the database server. Perhaps it could help to complain a bit to the provider.

Zan it is very hard to say what is going on without more infor. There will be times when the site is unavailble because of load on the server or a problem on the server. Generally these do not last too long. I am not sure why you seem to have more trouble than others. Sorry.

Hi guys

Erol you have problems mate.

A lot of the times i get page not found and other times i get those critical errors.

These errors last for a long time, sometimes whole days, and when you finally get in and start moving around the site, it comes back.

There is definetely something wrong.
