Just a warning to those flying tommorow from any airport from the UK, make sure you check with your carrier that the flight is scheduled before you leave for the airport. I should be in Cyprus right now, but our flight and 2 others with Cyprus Turkish airlines were cancelled due to the fog at Stanstead. Due to leave at 1:30 pm, we waited until around 5pm before we were told it was cancelled, as you can image, 3 plane load of angry Cypriots was not a nice site. We were not rescheduled, in fact we were told there are no flights until next week. What a shambles.
Dont be fooled by media thinking this is a problem that only affects Heathrow. Stanstead was badly hit too, but the fog should clear up in the next couple of days. But as i said, confirm your flight is scheduled before you leave the airport. |

This has come a little too late for me I was caught up yesterday wanting to go to Ercan Fro Stansted for the Christmas holidays. Luckely I was informed of the cancellation prior to my leaving home but how come this was the only other flight that day to be cancelled, was it the fog OR another reason the airline will not tell us???
The thing that really grips is that they would not re-schedule the flight but offered us a flight out of Heathrow on the 25th Great for a Christmas break or alternativly the 30th again from Heathrow.
too bad I had my car booked into Stansted for the break.
Does the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Tourism Ministry really care if they get visitors to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the income that they bring.
There must have been 2-3 hundred passengers left out in the cold this holiday.
"Cheesed off" I might make that exclamation, to save being embarresed |

Last night, Christmas day we were offered a flight out to Ercan from LUTON leaving 21:00 after all our disapointments this cams as a nice suprise, we can go and have at least a week of the hospitality of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
The only down side is that we shall be coming back on our sceduled flight into Stansted This now meens a Taxi ride to get the car back to come home with all the costs involved because CTA will not pay for this transfere. How meen is that??? |

Hi Cassius. Hopefully you are in Cyprus now and without a care in world?!
I don't think most airlines would offer anything different re: transfers, given that the problems were out of their control - all weather related - with BAA imposing cancellations at last minute (my parents were also victims of this, with their Ercan-London flight cancelled two days on trot). They've all lost monies and passengers all over have been inconvenienced. My advice for next time? Get some travel insurance - for life's little mishaps... |

Thanks for the suggestions for insurances but I have always carried travel insurance, I have never had to claim till now so we shall see how it goes.
but the issue of canceled flights has such a large knock on effect that differs from person to person but at the end of the day it all costs money, that some people cannot afford.
But once again thanks for the responses ans I may see you on another topic that will annoy me sometime. |
