|
|
| Just got through viewing this film that was shot in Istanbul. Turkish and American actors with a fairly decent plot that revolves around the wonderful city of Istanbul. Turkish friends: Get ready! It actually shows Turkey and Turks in a good light. I hope you can get it wherever you are. |

| well actually i've watched that movie too.But i cant say that i liked it really. Do you really think that they've made a film showing Turkish ?It was nothing but an amerikan point of wiew to an abortive country. The movie's script it self wasnt really interesting. But they filmed it in istanbul..thats the only reason its worth watching...I also think that Turkish cinema made by turkish directors has more local tastes in lots of ways...to keep it short the movie was so far away from mise en scene or artistic expression..there are a few films that i would like to recommend if you are really interested:) take care... |

| Only just hearing about this film, but if you want to enjoy the cultural sounds of Istanbul, then watch Crossing the Bridge. An amazing documentary told through the city's music. It made me recall why I moved to the city years back...very inspiring! |

Yes I would like to see your recomendations.
The film I mentioned is certainly not an oscar contender by any stretch of the imagination. I liked it because an American crew came to Istanbul and shot a film there and did not portray Turkey and Turks like Midnight Express did. It is good PR for Turkey. Moreover, this film is in the action genre. It is not an artsy fartsy thing that most Turkish directors go after. I have viewed those as well. It was a nice change from the movies that are usually produced there. 8) |

RG,
I like the cultural music and films of Turkey as well. The movie I mentioned is simply blind entertainment against the backdrop of a gorgeous city. In my opinion it adds to the versatilty of Istanbul. :D |

well it doesnt matter if its action genre or another genre the main thing is that in every movie there must be a logical event structure...and in that movie there is no sense in some partSS!! You get shocked and its kinda funny!!!here are some facts about the film...you can check for more on the imdb to find out more...
- banks would let you withdraw 14 million dollars without identification, as long as you send a spoof email (which many middle schoolers can do) claiming to come from the bank president and bring a photoshopped picture of yourself with the bank president.
- oh it's also ok if said spoof email was written in another language and translated with some cookbook translator program. May I recommend bablefish?
- Interpol likes to hide blood packs in the bathrooms of banks, so they can send undercover agents who would then get purposely kidnapped, so they can stop by the bank and ask to take a piss, so they can then put on the bulky blood packs just in case later on they bump into russian gun runners and want to pretend to get shot at the exact moment interpol shows up
- the easiest way make 14 million dollars is to befriend cute but moronic (as her obvious lack of computer skills can attest) computer "expert", make her fall in love with you, then write glowering recommendations to some computer firm in Turkey so they hire her. Now wait for said computer firm to come up with an assignment that involves russian gun runners and hope throughout this entire process computer firm never asks for a picture of a employee they have never seen but need to pick up at the airport. When gun runner assignment happens we'll somehow manage to hack into the US Embassy computers, as we send patsys to Istanbul hotel to pull fire alarms and steal IDs of moronic girl. In the process we hack into russian gun runner computer account ourselves and take 14 million dollars...I could go on another 3 paragraphs but let's just sum this up with "WTF?"
- Computer-illiterate screenwriters' idea of "High-tech" involves computer viruses that already infected your computer by being able to show a popup that says "your computer will be infected in 1 minute" then starts a countdown which idiot girl computer expert then disarms; "super-computers" named "ibrahim" that basically pop up a big screen with a bunch of windows media player-like visualizations and random pop ups to pretend to be busy with something; and also computer experts who use hotmail accounts (does she have a webpage on myspace too?)(imdb.com) |

| Thank you for the review. You missed my point entirely. Do all movies have to be historically or technically correct for entertainment value? Nope. It's called "make believe". I don't think the producers of the movie would have you believe everything in the movie as the gospel. It's just a movie for christ's sake. |

I watched Kurtlar Vadisi Irak on DVD last time I was in Turkey.
To be honest I was impressed by the production values.I was ready to cringe and get embarrassed expecting something like the old B rate Turkish action movies, you know he likes Cuneyt Arkin used to make.
But I was pleasantly surprised. We won't talk about the script of course, but that too served its purpose I'd say,to get back at the American Military for putting sacks over the heads of those Turkish soldiers... 8) |
