Should oversea's Cypriots be allowed to vote in the Cyprus elections.
I think we should and believe we could make a positive impact on the elections, its our country and even though for economical reasons we have had to go abroad we should all be allowed the right to choose our countries leaders etc.
Please vote and also make comments if you like why you agree or disagree. |

Surely if you have a passport, you can... :?
To be honest, if you don't, then I don't think you should have the right to vote. It's like saying that someone who emigrated to Australia from the UK in the 1960s, took up residency and ultimately citizenship should still have the right to vote in UK elections. I don't see it. |

| the thing is tho, that if a solution is found, it would almost certainly affect the diaspora of cyprus, cos many of them are 'displaced' persons etc, whcich would be effected by property question |

| If they're simply displaced, surely they would continue to hold Republic of Cyprus passports and would have the right to vote? Not sure I understand this. Even if you were born in the UK to Cypriot parents, I'm sure you could get dual or Republic of Cyprus nationality, my wife has and she was born in London. |

| From what i understand is that if you are a citizen but do not live there for so many moons in the year you lose the right to vote. |

| Overseas Cypriots that hold RoCy passports should and as far as I am aware, do have the right to vote. |

My parents can I think. I will check though. They have been in the UK since mid 60's but they have a permanent residence in Nicosia since the mid 70's. |

What I am sure is that unless one has his usual residence in Cyprus for the past 2 (?) years can not be elected-run for candidate.
To simply vote though one has to be registered in the voting catalogues and have a voting booklet. Voting with using just a passport or ID is not permitted in Republic of Cyprus. To get a voting booklet I beleive one must have a permanent address is Cyprus or have gotten his voting booklet when he had a permanent residence in the past. Voting booklets started in 1980 so I beleive none of the 50s,60,70s expats has any.... |

| If I am not recognize as a citizen, because I can't vote, why then do I require an exit VISA to get out of Cyprus. |
