Hi! I am writing from Denmark. I am trying to find my mother who lives in Cyprus. Could someone help me with an Internet site where I can search for names and addresses???
I myself was born in Nicosia in 1970, but I haven't seen my mother since the late seventies. I hope someone can help with an Internet address where I can start my search.
Thank you.
Kind regards Tina (Denmark). :) |

To best_of_both:
Thank you for your reply.
My mothers name is Maritza Hansen (Panaji before she was married to my father). Her birthday is 15/6-1946. She was born and lived in Filia and moved to Morphu later on. If you think you could find out some information I would really appreciate it or if you could tell me where I should start looking. I have tried the phone register, but no luck. Maybe I am not doing it correctly.
To Khan:
I have written to the Danish embassy in Cyprus, but still waiting for reply...
To Dhavlos:
Yes, It would be great to visit Cyprus again, but at the moment it is not possible for me, but I will some day :o).
Thank you all for your replies.
Kind regards
Tina |

Hi Tina and welcome to the forum.
Since you know her birth name I am very sure that some older people in the village of Filia will know/remember her and it shouldn't be too difficult to obtain some info from there. Or maybe you can contact the village authorities? Here is a lsit of all Cyprus villages that have their own internet page http://www.cyprus-government.com/index.php?catdom_id=663
I didn't find Filia though, but maybe its spelled differently? |

Is it possible that the spelling Maritza is a Danish variant? Possibly it was Maritsa, or possibly even Marina from the start?
Anyway, you can find the Republic of Cyprus phonebook online at:
http://www.cytayellowpages.com.cy/directory_uk/green_dir.asp
There is even a good match here for Nicosia:
http://www.cytayellowpages.com.cy/directory_uk/apotel-green.asp?direct=none&district=NC&lastname=HANSEN&firstname=&btnSearch1=S+e+a+r+c+h
HANSEN MARITSA Res, 12 Kroisou, 2369 Agios Dometios 22779531
Good luck! |

My fathers name is Jørn Hansen.
Maybe it could be that my mothers name is spelled Maritsa instead of Maritza ?? But according to the papers that my fathers has it is spelled with a z...
but on the other hand how many has the last name Hansen in Cyprus which is a Danish name. |

Also note that "the real spelling" is in Greek, and quite a few people have variations when writing it in English/Danish (latin letters)... Maritsa and Maritza would most likely be the same in Greek.
In addition, the spelling in the Greek phone book is with a Sigma, and most likely the spelling in the English part has been translated by a representative of the phone company... |
