I am planning to move to Limassol for a job in 6 months, and I want to make sure that my salary will cover my costs of living. If anyone could give me an idea of the price for the following items, it would be a big help. I am not from Europe so if people could give me a price rather than a comparison that would be best.

loaf of bread
12 eggs
can of tuna
beer (at the store)
bottled water
a litre of milk
vegetables (things for salad and stir fry)
canned soup
bottle of wine
coke
cheese

Also I am wondering if there are decent gyms, and more or less what the cost of membership would be?

I am also planning on taking Greek classes, and am wondering how much i should expect to pay.

Thanks!

ok from memory:
prices are all from the store:
Local beer: 60c
Coke: 50c
Bottle of wine: 1.70 for cheap wine, but good value for money around 3-4 pounds
Cheese: 3-4 per kilo
Can of Tuna: 70c
Vegetables: vary from few cents per kilo to 1-2 pounds
12 eggs: 1-1.50
Loaf of bread: <1 pound

Don't go to a gym in Cyprus, they are rip off. 20-40 pounds for a monthly membership, probably even more. I suggest you find another sport.

5-10 pounds per hour i'll say for greek classes, depends how many people in a class. If private even more.

Cheers and by the way where are you from?

I´m from Canada, but I live in Mexico right now and I will be going to Limassol with my significant other, who is Mexican becuase we have been offered a job with the company that I currently work for. I have lived in a few different countries, and I´m sure that Cyprus isn´t the craziest!

What makes it so crazy Alexios???

Hello my Canadian friend Wings. For cost of living I beleive it would be similar to Canada or a little cheaper.

As you are moving to my beloved country I feel the necessity to educate you.

1. First things first, as Alexios and Brother mentioned: Souvla, souvlaki/seftalia, shish Kebab (gyros in Limassol), Zivania (traditional drink) and KEO (local beer). If you consider buying a car, ask for a diplocabino - that will fit the foukou and other equipment for the souvla making.

2. Limassol has a number of monuments but the greatest of all is the sign that sais "towards Nicosia".

3. When you go to Limassol you will realise that there are 7 major roundabout on the highway, that is because the designers of the highway wanted to give 7 opportunities to the people of Nicosia to return back.

4. Close to Limassol there is a tunel that leads to the Independent Republic of Paphos. In the tunel there were plans for duty free shops but the plans were cancelled due to communication difficulties with Pafites.

5. The first Greek sentence you need to know is 'Apoel thrylos protathlima' - Apoel Legend Championship

and finally it will be handy to know the modern Cyprus national anthem.

Ate opa re pelle
Souvla, krasi je nargile

Ate opa re pelle
Ellines, Tourjioi je sikime

Ate opa re pelle
pame oulloi kapare

Translation:
Ate, opa, re crazy guy
Souvla, wine and shisha pipe

Ate opa re crazy guy
Greeks and Turks and who gives a damn

Ate opa re crazy guy
Lets go all together to the cabaret

Cheers

Thanks Marina, it doesn't mean I believe what I wrote. Just some lefkosia-lemesos-pafos jokes.

Even if I am from Lefkosia actually I don't like lefkosia, especially in summer.

Wings I am sure you will like Limassol if you meet the right people and don't take my previous post too serious.

Have fun in Cyprus
