Hi realitycheck and welcome to the forum :welcome:

Seems like they (EU) have done exactly what it says on the box and outlined areas they feel that Turkey still needs to improve on, this imo should not be treated as an assasination of turks nor an issue of pride but a template of real issues that need to be addressed if they really want to join the EU and as such concentrate on correcting/improving hence next years report will reflect their efforts.

Thanks for the welcome!

I cant see Turkey opening ports to cypriot ships by mid december....beginning to look like membership talks could be frozen...In fact if Turkey's accession to EU is dropped this gives them no incentive to solve cyprus problem.

Well i understand how you can get pessimistic when it comes to the cyprus problem but i highly doubt the EU will fully suspend the negotiations but will probably push the issue back again to another date or just freeze that part of negotiations but....wait for it.....thunder might strike twice and a mutually agreable solution is found.

On another note if Turkey does get suspended for whatever reason then the reality is that the cyprus problem will have been solved and the partition will become permanent and that will be the end of it imo.

Keep your chin up as that second scenario is definately not what the EU wants to happen imo.

I think the real danger Cyprus faces now is the demographic change in the north of the island....I wonder how you think the reunification will come about...

If there is goodwill and a real desire for unification a viable solution can easily be found in a period of time but unfortunately with Tpap as president that will never happen.

I really dont know what to make of the president...some see him as a saviour of the republic, others as a nationalistic dinosaur. Although I would not have voted for reunification under the Annan plan - I personally was surprised by the reaction of some Greek Cypriot's when faced with the prospect of living side by side with the Turkish Cypriots.
