Interesting information on the movie in Politis newspaper. Click on the left hand corner of the newspaper's online edition where pics of the movie appear in sequence.

It will be shown at the Presidential Palace, where Papadopoulos will express public apologies for trying to censor the film and provide all with a free sandwich and a coca cola, along with pasatempo nuts.

Hi, have you read what the site says on the history of the Cyprus problem, I think it's pretty accurate...

I'm really looking forward to seeing the film...:)

I have a question though, it says that the main male character joined the Greek Cypriot struggle against the British...I didn't know that Turkish Cypriots fought for EOKA...did many Turkish Cypriot's join the campaign?

Hi Cypezokyli, a mistake on the part of the film, or on the part of the website?

Quote: With neither side prepared to compromise, we are all awaiting to see what will happen to the film, which is a love story between a Turkish Cypriot man and a Greek Cypriot woman, spanning the most turbulent period of our history, from 1955 to ’75. It is all shot in the Akamas. The Turkish Cypriot protagonist becomes an EOKA fighter in order to win the love of the patriotic Greek Cypriot woman, which he eventually does, but they do not live happily ever after, because she refuses to go with him to wife-swapping parties in Polis. (Well not exactly, that was just me being a rebel, exercising my right to artistic freedom without permission from the Education Ministry) In the film, the couple have a difficult life because they are ostracised by their respective communities.

I found this quote from one of the press cutting's about the film. The last bits' quite funny...

I have to say, the more I think about the problems caused by the Government towards the film, the more I realize how silly it was....I mean I understand that the history of the Cyprus problem is still a sensitive issue, and to give them a bit of credit, they did allow for the controversial film to be shot in a coffee shop and I can understand the sensitivity of it being filmed taking place in a church...but still, they're part of Europe now, they need to give more artistic license...Let's just hope that they find a way of showing it in Cyprus, it looks like a good film...

people can argue endlessly from a legal point of view if the director kept his cntract and if the goverments decision was an attempt to cencor the film .

as a political decision it was imo a direct attempt to sencor the film. i am happy that the director found the money he was missing and the film was shown in venice. now hopefully the cypriots will watch it as well

The controversial bit was a scene where an EOKA fighter executes a "traitor" in a church. The fighter was called Evagoras in the film so certain circles associated him with the real EOKA fighter Evagoras Pallicarides, probably the most popular of EOKA fighters, who was a romantic 18 year old and brilliant poet.Other than the name however, the scene was not associated with Pallicarides as the real incident took place at the village of Akanthou, almost at the other side of Cyprus where Pallicarides never even set foot.
As for the wife swapping parties in Polis, it is absolutely true and Bullica can verify it.You can ask him.....
