sorry, but I had to laugh...

Quote: Triumph for national security as President’s shampoo stolen
(archive article - Sunday, October 15, 2006)
TWO PEOPLE were arrested on Friday after they were caught trying to steal President Tassos Papadopoulos’ shampoo from his home.

The two cleaners, believed to be Sri Lankan, were caught attempting to walk out of President Papadopoulos’ home in Strakka by officers of the Presidential guard. The two Sri Lankans were led to a local police station nearby and quizzed by officers over why they wanted the President’s shampoo.

Charges were set to be brought against the two before it was eventually decided to let them off with a warning.

Politis newspaper, that uncovered the story, sarcastically described the story as “a triumph for national security” under a cartoon picture of the President in a bathtub with rubber ducks with a hand in the corner swiping a shampoo bottle from a shelf.

I would like to see the cartoon from Politis. :-)

I think the Sri Lankans were Turkish spies.
It wasn't shampoo in that bottle but the Akritas Plan Papadopoulos was trying to whitewash! :)

It was revealed that a virus had changed the date in "Politis" newspaper's computer system, and had made it appear as March 31 2006. Consequently, one of the "journalists" in that paper assumed that the following day was going to be the 1st of April (fools day,) and decided to run a little story, which apparently was also picked up and carried forward by its sister newspaper the "Cyprus Mail." Cyprus mail's computers had no such problem with the date, and although they realized immediately that it was an accidental joke, suitable for another date of the calendar, they decided to hide behind "Politi's" misfortune and also run the "news story" themselves, since it suited their anti-Papadopoulos defamation campaign.
