I was watching the state tv news yesterday, and apparently the Halloumi Wars are about to break out.

We are open for bets.

As far as Im aware Hellim/Halloumi only found its way to Turkey and Greece through their respective communities in Cyprus. As to who created it first is simply impossible to know. Its like asking who created the table or the chair. Hellim and Halloumi are just 2 words for the same thing. The only arguement can be if one side claims it over the other, which I hope neither of us are doing. Its simply Cypriot, and whats more its lovely. I'll have mine barbecued please.

I remember a few years ago was a legal argument about Halloumi, as one danish (?) company was producing it as well. Cyprus (well Republic of Cyprus I think) claimed it was theirs and they won.
