Some users have been having continued problems with the chat system. Namely with it not showing their user name properly in the chat system.
In an attempt to resolve these probelms I have installed a beta version of the chat programme. One thing to note is that this version creates and keeps a log of all chat sessions so be careful what you say about me when I am not there ;)
For those that are having problems with their user name this is what you need to do.
Firstly goto www.talkcyprus.org by typing the URL into your browsers' address bar - do not use a saved favourite or any other type of link to enter the site.
If you show up as 'logged in' when you enter the forum this way - click on log out. Make sure you are logged out (it should show this i the top right of the main screen)
Then close the browser and in a new browser window goto
http://www.talkcyprus.org/chatbox_mod/chatbox.php (you might want to copy this url now so you can paste it into your browser address bar later)
This should then present you with a log in screen. Log in here using your forum username and password and it should take you to the chatbox screen and you should be deiplayed correctly as the correct user.
If it does not take you to a login screen it means that you did not log out of the forum properly in the first step.
I am hoping that this will end the problems that some users were finding with chatbox (where their messages were showing up as comming from a different user). |

OK I think I have an idea what is happening with those users that are having problems with the chat system
Form what I can see you are all using spidernet as your ISP ?
It would seem that spidernet is making it users access the web via a proxy server, so you all come from the same IP address as far as the forum and chat system is concerned. Also from what I can see spidernet do not have this proxy server set up correctly either !
If we are lucky spidernet forces the use of this proxy by settings held localy by each user. If we are unlucky they force it to happen from their end regardless of any local settings.
I need a spidernet user to have a look at their local settings for me to see if we can stop them using this proxy server for this specfic site.
Goto tools menu in internet explorer
select internet options from this menu
then select the 'connections' tab from the top of the internet options form
If you are a dial up customer there should be an entry for spidernet in the list of dial up settings.
Select this spidernet entry and then click settings.
This should bring up another form which should have a section saying 'proxy settings'
If the 'use proxy server' check box is checked (has a tick in it) then we should be able to slove the problems by clicking the 'advanced' button and entering www.talkcyprus.org into the 'exceptions' section of this form.
If the 'use proxy server' check box is unchecked then this means that spidernet is forcing their customers to use a web proxy server (and one I suspect is misconfigured as well) and there is nothing we can do except try and contact spidernets helpline and ask them to stop forcing the sue of this proxy server or stop doing so when accessing this site.
In summary then it is all spidernets fault :) |
