OMG cyprus won against teh republic of ireland!!! Pretty impressive, although to be honest, it seems that the roi played abismally...their defense often just looked on at what was happening behind them!!!

Nope! Cyprus was just playing with 13 plays, against 11 from Ireland, and 13 against 10 for the last 10 minutes.
Constantinou was the man of the game, as he played like a runaway horse, constantly holding 2-3 Irish players busy chasing him around …and still unable to handle him.
 |

Why was the stadium so empty???...and considering one whole stand was full of Irish (i think), its quite disappointing.
As for the British media (even tho Ireland isnt British), they will rarely give credit to a team beating 'one of theirs'. |

They probably had a stand with no-one in it so that there was enough space so there wouldnt be a riot if cyprus lost ;)
but, yeh, seemed like there was hardly anyone there!?!? |

| I dont think there would have been a riot if Cyprus lost. People would probably been expecting that. |

| Ive seen Cyprus play above there usual standard the past year or so (barring the Slovakia game). They have a few good players like Knostantinou and Charalambides. I think there main problam has always been a mental one and it always seemed like they didnt care. There needs to be more support at the home matches to cheer Cyprus on and get the team looking like they want to win more. |

Unfortunately, the only time Cyprus stadiums are full are when the big 4-5 clubs play each other or when they play against a turkish team!!:)
Cypriots have the bad habit of supporting their team only when it does well or when they have a chance of beating the archenemy (huge inferiority complex if you ask me)
As for the national team, it certainly has the ability to do well, with players like Constantinou and 3-4 others who play for top Greek teams, or teams like Omonia and APOEL. The problem is, that the teams they play for and get paid large wages from, often demand from these players not to risk anything when playing for Cyprus!! so we have had games when the players looked like they just came to kick about the ball until the 90 minutes were over... :? I hope the Ireland game was not a flash in the pan.I was also pleased to see that the new kit colours were the Cyprus flag colours of white and yellow with a litle bit of green, which proved lucky:)
I hope finally that soon T/C players will be called up so we ll have a truly Cypriot National team.....If i am not mistaken, we did have T/C players playing for Cyprus in the past with great success, but those were times when footballers like Defter Ali (Am not so sure about the names  ) were amongst the very best Cypriot football had to offer. |
