5 years ago, Daniel Pearl, Wall Street Journalist and musician was murdered brutally by extremists in Pakistan while on assignment. Judeah Pearl, his father, set up the Daniel Pearl Foundation, an organisation that aims to unite people of different religions and beliefs through dialogue and mutual understanding.

Through the Foundation, Daniel Pearl lives on, his life a celebration each year of the two things he loved most, music and journalism. This year’s ‘Harmony for umanity’ Humanity’ will involve Herbie Hancock, Elton John and Steve Reich, who has composed a special piece of music for Daniel Pearl.

In Cyprus, a group of musicians and poets will be coming together for a special tribute on Friday October 13 at The Fulbright Centre, Nicosia (next to the Ledra Palace). The event will feature Zeki Ali, Sofoz, The Rewinders, X-Force, Aysegul, Johnny Deviant and a scribe called Haji Mike.

Admission’s free and the live show runs 8-11. The symbolism of ‘Harmony for Humanity’ is powerful the world over – its also specifically relevant to Cyprus where for many decades intolerance, prejudice and misunderstanding have ruled the waves.
