It didnt make the news like other sporting events.In fact the media hardly touched upon the subject.But Cyprus has won no less than 8 gold medals and i dont know how many silver or bronze, in the recent games in Rome.
With negligible government help , these children have done us proud, compensating their volunteer trainers for their hard work and commitment.Of course these games are not offered for fervent nationalistic celebrations and flag waiving in the streets.But in my opinion, purely because of their nature, they are far far more important.The joy on the faces of those ever smiling children, whether they win or not is the very essence of the olympic spirit. |
