|
|
For those of you who have Google Earth, can anyone tell me if they know exactly what this picture shows?
To me, it looks like an old abandoned airfield. The markings are about 1.3km long, which is rather too short for any abandoned modern base and run parallel to the Tseri-Dali road, approximately 3kms east of Tseri. Therefore I would surmise that it was a British airbase.
If you have Google Earth, you can view it at:
35*03'25.34" 33*21'29.78''E
I'm intrigued to find out if anyone knows about this. |

| It is an abandoned airfield SE of Tseri village from the collonial times. There are a few of those around Cyprus. |

Thanks for the info Kifeas. Can I assume it was built for WWII purposes?
Looks like military hardened bunkers to me... probably storing either ammunition or heavy weapons... I've looked at it on Google Earth and it looks like a huge base, around 1km square... and complete with helipads and barracks... interestingly, it's about 0.5km from a tourist beach ;)
Well spotted re, I hadn't seen that one before.
Can I also refer you to
34*43'06.57"N 32*29'51.94E
Some hardened shelters at Pafos International Airport, pretty easy to spot when you're landing there too... ;)
Given that I can't find it elsewhere, can I assume that Andreas Papandreou airbase and Pafos International are one and the same?
Can anyone else spot anything interesting? With our collective eyes, we should be able to spot anything, at least in the areas that Google Earth has scanned in detail... |

Actually Bir, its an old joke in Cyprus...
This goat herdsman loses his favourite goat.He is in despair and wonders around the village asking people if anybody has seen her, when suddenly he hears this newly wed man telling his bride that in her eyes he sees the whole world...so he jumps up to him and asks...You have't seen my goat have you???
I guess google is a kind of bride's eyes... |
