if it makes you feel any better, even if your mum wasnt ttc, im sure they would have found something else to critisise. It is inherent sadly.

Best_of_both, where do you permanently live, in Cyprus or in the UK? Who and in which way doesn't accept your mother for being Turkish? Can you be a bit more specific, so that we understand what you are trying to say?

BoB, I've got a funny feeling that your post is designed to be inflamatory and to promote hate rather than reflecting your true background. If anything, you should be proud to be a 'true' Cypriot (representing both communities), rather than hating one part of your background.

sometimes it is true, that we , (i would say women as well....or to be more specific the cypriot mothers being afraid not to loose their precious sons) can be not that polite to mixed marriages , even though one out of ten cypriots is married with a foreigner today.

- get a girl from cyprus (and if possible from the same city) , with her house, with her car, one who has a job (preferably a teacher)...and above all dont marry to bring me a kalamarou (a grrek girl) etc

(i would bet anything that Turkish Cypriots get the same advices? )

to be honest , when i confront attitudes like the one you describe best_of_both, i also feel someitmes ashamed for being a Greek Cypriot. but i cant go as far as hate myself, can i ?

you can ignore them
or face them

but to hate them, isnt really going to help.
and above all isnt oing to kane them change those attitudes.

Just maybe a few wise words to help you out.

I can't remember at the moment who said it but these words helped me to get over from the anger you are feeling.

" you cannot blame your parents for the way you live your life or for screwing you up after you are twenty one years old".

Take control buddy. Be good to your wife and your children. When your family see how happy you are they cannot use your marriage against you.

My father is Cypriot and mother is Macedonian:
Yes there will always be people who will try to bring you down:
Specially if they are fanatical: Greeks or Turks:
You are also a true UNITED Cyprus that many of us just dream about:
Try to pick out the best of both worlds:
In other words surely there are some Greek Cypriot who respect what you are and also some Turkish Cypriot:
The Greek Cypriot want to TRY and blame what happened in 1974 on many people:

EOKA
ENOSIS:
Turkey:
Greece:
BUT all the Greek Cypriot had to do is LOOK IN THE MIRROR:
BUT they cant blame themselves CAN THEY for the mess Cyprus is in:
We had our own unique country and identity BUT NO they wanted to be part of another country EVEN thou this country didn't really want us:
ALSO a few fools thought they could speak and make up the minds of the majority of the Greek Cypriot:
It is like me getting a few NUT CASES:
And going around saying Cyprus is ONLY for Cypriots:
And then killing, murdering and threatening those who say we are not Cypriots but Greek Cypriot & Turkish Cypriot: OR theses who don't agree with me:
See in CYPRUS you can ask 100 people and they will have a solutions to the Cyprus problem:
SO if other words they don't know what the F**K they want:
Not even father and brother and relatives can agree:
BUT in your case walk tall knowing that you are a true UNITED Cyprus:
