| :) Following on from the Poundshop idea back in the UK we're obviously overrun with supermarkets but theres not really any big ones in the resort area that I'v seen anyway. How about the rumour i heard of a new big Tesco to be built in Paphos, anybody know about that. :?: :?: |

As a shareholder (boo, hiss!) it would seem a good idea IMO. Tesco's growth rate in the UK has been tremendous over the past few years and it has had to open up abroad to keep the rate up - Hungary, Thailand, Cyprus etc.
Well, at least the third seems sound ;) |

I doubt Tesco would build a megastore in Cyprus along the lines of those in the UK, but I think it more likely that you've see a few 'Tesco Express' stores opening in the major centres. This is the policy that Tesco have adopted with great success in the UK and elsewhere and I don't see them changing that strategy in Cyprus. By 'Express' I still mean large compared to many Cypriot supermarkets, but small compared to the hypermarkets they have across the UK (they've recently doubled the size of the one in my town to include DIY, gardening and clothing departments, to the point where I now get lost everytime I go in).
More competition in Cyprus the better I say. |
