Steve was a gentleman and true blue aussie and a man of the earth:
He was like Archillies:
A arrow to the heel BUT in poor Steve case a spike to the heart from a stingray:
My heart and tears go out to his wife and young family and as well to his father who he loved and who loved him greatly: Special after Steves mother died tragedly in a car crash a few years ago:
Let me tell you one more story about this larger than life man:
Did you know he bought up land in Australia and others countries just to leave it as wilderness for the animals:
He said once "who will take the side of the animals who have NO SAY?"
He bought some wet lands in Queensland so that it could not be turned into a stupid golf coarse or hotel:
We need a Steve in Cyprus where people on both sides of the line see the DOLLAR $IGN before our childrens and animals FUTURE walfare:
Steve said "IF other millionaire just bought some land and just left it to nature the world would be a better place:
RIP Steve and hopefully ONEDAY greedy politicans & buisness men can learn from a poor boy from Essedon! (That is where he was born):
No cheers today boys!
Crickes! Steve the world and the animals are going to miss you mate: |

| To be honest, I have not heard of this gentleman before. The Cyprus microcosm can sometimes be very alienating. It was of course much worse a few years ago, especially before internet. |

RIP the great crocodile hunter, it is indeed a very sad day that we lose Steve a man that young and old had much respect for.    |

Sick dummy... but amusing nonetheless... reminds me of the tragic Rod Hull incident a few years back which spawned a million jokes too...
Just on the issue that a few people had raised... I think Steve's method was unorthodox and it certainly wasn't natural history at a blue-chip level, however, he brought an interest in wildlife and in conservation issues to a whole new audience who wouldn't have dreamt of watching Blue Planet or Life on Earth and for that he deserves plaudits. To be honest I expected him to die prematurely because of the way he was with exceptionally dangerous animals, particularly those (unlike crocodiles and snakes) that he didn't have intimate knowledge of. Despite this, I think his respect for the animals was self-evident in every programme he ever made and his enduring legacy will be that which DP mentioned, he used most of the wealth he gained both for the upgrading of the facilities at his wildlife park and in buying vast tracts of Australian wilderness to safeguard the futures of the animals that live within them, rather than letting the land go to property moguls and agriculture. Good on ya Steve.
P.S. I love that picture too Leyla. My enduring memory of Steve's shows was the programme in which his dog Sui died. Steve spent the last two days of her life looking after her and sleeping alongside her on the floor. It was a very touching and personal moment and it showed the man beyond the persona. That I will always remember. |
