Well, I guess its also high time I add my voice as well. To me a solution to the Cyprus problem presents a challange for both sides involved to live up to. And that challange is the safeguarding of my rights as an individual in any agreement regarding the country I live in and plan to build a family and fortune.
I am of a younger generation, living in relative peace and prosperity doing my best to survive based on my own efforts, without the experience of having been involved in the intercommunal strife of the past decades. Hence I have become accustomed to leading a peaceful life and minding my own business, being relatively tolerant and open minded to all sorts of things in life.
On top of that, I truly do feel myself as a European, as it is in Europe that I feel myself at home. I take the rights and privileges of a European, bereft to the vast majority of the world's population, as granted and vital to my existance.
The right of free speech, the right of free movement, the right to take pride in my cultural and national background, the right of determining my own future with my own efforts and have them appreciated accordingly, and the ability to look upon the Law not as a merciless punisher to be feared, but as a steadfast protector to be respected and honored. All these things I expect from a solution to the Cyprus problem. And on these issues I shall remain adamant and uncompromising, for they are what defines who I am, a Cypriot and a European. |
