I've been told my new surname (Christodoulou) is as common as Smith in Cyprus! Is this true...?
Think I will be the only one in the UK with my name though.... |

| Very common and unless you live in little Britain...you will find many others with your name. Pick up a London issue of the Thomson phone directory and have a look. |

I wonder how many people will ask me if I'm actually greek despite the pale face and hair?! Ignorance...
My husband is also fair but whenever we are in Cyprus people still talk to him in Turkish. We went to a touristic site once and the kiosk attendant asked me if we were Cypriot (ticket prices differ depending on whether you are deemed a tourist or not) - I said yes, he then asked me about my husband and I said he was English - he studied him carefully then said "no, you're Cypriota as well because you have married one of our girls - welcome to the family" - lol..we laughed for days about it. |

I've had that too - but probably my own fault because I try to talk Greek so they start speaking back in Greek but way too fast for me! I dont mind, I consider myself an honorary Cypriot now anyway.... 8) |

It can be difficult but there isn't a better way to learn really - the other option is to hang out with your much younger relations whom are always willing to teach you new words (although you might want to keep a dictionary handy in case they teach you things that may not go down too well at the dinner table that night!). |

As for Christodoulou there are plenty in Australia:
BUT One thing we all forgot are the NICK Names:
In Cyprus it is very comon:
In Lapithos you could only find the person using a Nick Name: (Parastouli?) not his real name:
Do the Turkish Cypriot have nick names? |
