Today it is the greatest and most emotional moment from since I started this work. A Greek Cypriot woman that her father is missing from 1974 has posted the following message in Cyprus forum that made me feel it worth doing what I do.

Hi this is my first time in the forum though I follow up the discussion that goes on now and then.

I am from the suburbs of Limassol and my father is missing from 1974. To hate the Turks for taking my father away from me was as natural as breathing. When I found out about Mr. Angastiniotis and his film I felt disgust. I though of him as a traitor and having him shot would not disturb me mach, not to say it would have given me joy.

Saturday I somebody gave me his book with his documentary inside. My life changed. For the first time I realized that Turkish Cypriots suffered equally. My father was as precious as a Turkish Cypriot father to his children. This was a new reality to me. Mr. Angastiniotis book had such an approach to human pain, and to the Cyprus problem that I have never heard before. I wept through every page, but this time not only for my father, but for every father, every mother, every child that died in the war from both sides.

I think every Cypriot, Greek and Turkish, must read his book and as Mr. Angastiniotis said in his book, we mast in one voice say NEVER AGAIN! The friend that brought me the book from a Turkish Cypriot Bookshop said to me that it will be available next week in the Greek side by Muflon bookshop in Nicosia, not sure if this is exactly the name.

Mr. Angastiniotis wherever you are, THANK YOU! You have touched my life; you deserve a peace Nobel price. I hope all the curses I send against you in my ignorance will never reach you.

Welcome to the forum Tony. This is where many people will turn against me.

You hit me but my friend hit your friend so everything is OK? Sorry, this is not right. You hit me that all i care about. The Turkish army decided to abuse Greek Cypriot's just like the Locals decided to get revenge by abusing Turkish Cypriot's (OR THE OTHER WAY ROUND)

Just when the Greeks abused Turkish Cypriot's it was seen as ''lets go help the poor suffering Turkish Cypriot's''

But when the Turkish army did it it was shrugged off as Part of the Protection plan.

Both sides suffered but the motives and angle that they were portrayed to the world were very different.

Don't get me wrong it was a two way thing but I don't think all should be forgotten just because both sides went through the same thing.

but how much of the past do we really know?
What is true and what is propaganda?
What are our minds fed with on both sides through the years and what is in reality the story?

My brother we must dig and dig well until we reach the bones of truth hidden under this islands ground.

Just last month the bodies of Greek Cypriot's were dug up which begs the question;Will we ever know the complete truth? Probably not. I don't know the Turkish Cypriot's numbers but i know about a thousand (numbers have changed recently and i have not been told an official figure) Greek Cypriot's are still missing.

There is no doubt in my mind that they were kidnapped and murdered. I am sure that there are also some Turkish Cypriot's buried in a field in the south. These facts can not be disputed. If one or two people saw it then they could be making it up but if an entire island and the worlds press saw it then there is no excuse.

The world knows what happened in Cyprus good and bad yet not action is being taken. Just like centuries ago Cyprus has just been a pawn in international politics

I have no about the Greek missing and maybe I am in a position that knows more details than most people. I even had Turkish soldiers from 1974 admitting executions. But at the same time there is a few hundred of Turkish Cypriots that are missing or ended up in mass graves.

For example 80 men from Tohni and 15 from Alaminos are still buried in the South.
126 woman and children (some days or month old) in Maratha, Aloa and Sandalar where executed on the 15th of August 1974 and was shown from international press around the world, I have on my documentary the actual excavations of this villages.

Then we have a few hundred of Turkish Cypriots missing from 1963 -74 period, there names and places that they disappeared is listed in the Greek government official web page, so the government is not rejecting the fact.

These are realities that I cannot avoid looking straight in the yes, and I don’t know if you know about them. I am not pro Turkish, I am pro Cypriot and both peoples suffering is equal to me because both people have equal place in my heart.

welcome tony,
what you said im sure has touched many people. Me too. i agree, we need to repair the past, to beuild our future.

In another thread i have said there needs to be a peace/truth/reconiliation committee, to establish a 'universal turth', so that we may all know what exactly happened, and not have to hear stories and rumours that may not be true. I hope one day we may all know exactly what happened, and i hope we have all learnt from the horrors.
