As someone who practices his German on this sort of thing all that is no surprise: the incumbent (Gerhard Schroeder) is charismatic yet soiled and battered but the principal challenger (Angela Merkel) is ineffective and dogged by suspicions that she is keeping back all manner of nastiness. Sounds familiar, does it not? ;)
(She has also been construed, several times, as having made remarks derogatory to former East Germans).
Actually, the situation is worse than I hinted at; it is as though Tony Blair and Gordon Brown both dropped dead and a General Election was called, exposing an abyss of emptiness.

Unfortunately very true.
I personally know who to vote for and will do so already this week before heading of to my derserved holiday in Cyprus. :-)

Small correction here. It wasn't her. It was Edmund Stoiber who is head of their "Sisterparty" in Bavaria. I'm pretty sure he did a lot of damage so to say to their stand in East ´Germany. I wouldn't wonder if that costs them the win.
Apart from that most of us here are not really sure who will win. In the past there was always a certain confidence that we knew who was going to win.....:-) |

we'll see. I went voting today as I will not be in the country on election day. I don't think it will make much difference who wins. As usual. |

ah, yes, now I see where you coming from. You are right. There is a difference at least when it comes to EU accession talks. :lol:
I actually meant it won't make much difference for us here in Germany and to the countries economic situation.... |
