I don't know if anyone suggested this before but here goes.

I know about the listing of the postings of each member by clicking on his/her name but with so many postings it is very difficult to find the one you are looking for.

Is it possible to have a "google type" search within the forum to find a particular post from any member?

What I mean is a "word search" type of searching instead of going thousands of posting to find the one you are interested in.

It does, well, sort of but it does not show only the individual postings but whole threads where these words have been used and you have to go through each thread and posting to find the one you are looking for.

What I meant is that the search lists only those postings and not the whole thread.

I am not sure what you mean eric.

With the in built forum seacrh you can limit the seacrh to just and indivdual users or an indivdual user and any of a lsit of search terms or an indivdual user and all given search terms and show the displayed out put as the threads in whihc matches are made or posts in whihc matches are made.

What is it exactly that you wish to do that you think the current search does not do ? TYhe chances are it does it already if you use it properly.

Ok, let's just say that I am looking for a word that someone has used in the past. If I put that word in the search then I get all the thredas that the word has been used but also all the postings that the word has not been used in. Am I right so far?

If for instance I am searching for a single word (ie: hotel, but could be anything) and I get only a listing of all postings with the word "hotel" in them but without the thread where that posting is.

I just tried a search for "Eric Dayi AND genocide" and the result was a list of 11 threads, but to find the postings where the word "genocide" is used I have to go through each and ever thread and posting to fing the one I am looking for. But If I type "genocide AND Eric Dayi" then I only get a list of two threads.

If Instead I get a list of postings only from "Eric Dayi" and a list of posting of only where the word "genocide" was used would save a hell of a lot of time.

But if there is a way of doing that with the present search facility, I have not been able to find it and would appriciate it if you could put me on the right track.

If you search on a single word and selct the display option

'display results as threads'

you will get all the treads that have that word in any of the post to the thread

if you use the display option

'display results as posts'

you just get indivdual posts that contain that word.

If you want to find all your own posts (not threads the posts were made in) that contained the word geneocide the process would be as follows.

Search for Keywords: = genocide
Search for Author: = Eric Dayi
Display results as: = posts

This produces a list of the 27 posts in whihc you have used the word 'genocide'

You can also control the sort of this list before making the search by using the relevant boxes / options

Once you get the list of your 27 posts you can click on (or right click and open in new window) the 'subject' link of any given post and this will take you to that post (not allways exactly on it because of the add on that stops posts extending past the right side of your browser window and thus needing scrolling to read them) and highlight the word 'genocide' for you.

That's exactly was I was trying to find but obviously didn't.

Hey Eric, why don’t you try… "Eric Dayi AND garbage" …and you’ll find ALL your postings guaranteed!
