|
|
Quote: Berlin - Football's world governing body, Fifa, on Monday announced that they had suspended the Greek Football Federation for allowing political involvement in their running of the sport.
The suspension means that Greece, the reigning European champions, will be suspended from all international football until further notice.
See reuters article here. I believe this is going to dominate the news tomorrow. The next competition on the line is of course the Euro 2008. There are still some months until the first game of Greece, which is on the 2nd of September, full games schedule of Greece here. Let's hope that authorities in Greece will pass the necessary laws and Greece will participate in the Euro 2008. Otherwise, it will be kind of weird that the ex-champs are banned from the competition! |

| Actually, it is perhaps better to read it from the FIFA's website. |

Quote: In spite of repeated warnings from both FIFA and UEFA, the commitment expressed by Greek government representatives to amend the law on sport to irrevocably recognise that football matters can only be decided by the HFF and its subordinated football structures has not been respected. In fact, the recently-presented draft of a new law on professional leagues constitutes another example of interference from the government in football affairs. Therefore, the FIFA Emergency Committee has determined that the deadline would not be met by the HFF and that the suspension of this federation was necessary.
HFF = Hellenic Football Federation |

sometimes i believe that in this part of the world, there is an inability to understand that rules are there and are suppossed to be respected. if you dont respect them you are out of the club. as simple as that.
lets hope the greeks will fix the problem , and not turn it into another conspiracy against hellenism.
...expect a law proposed, drafted , accepted in a matter of days....the traditional greek way of doing everything the last minute. they ll manage |

I just read that the Ban has been lifted, due to the greece Gov changing the law governing football,
And then they have also withdrawn all financial aid to the football league
