The best hotel I've ever stayed in was the American Colony in Jerusalem. It used to be the Ottoman Pascha's residence and I stayed in one of the rooms around the courtyard that used to be one of the Pascha's wives rooms. Cost me $250 per night back in 2000, but an amazing place. I signed in the guestbook which has been there for decades and leafing through it saw signatures from Churchill, Laurence of Arabia etc. etc. The cast of 'Laurence of Arabia' stayed there while filming in the 1960s.

Highly recommended, if I ever return to Israel (doubtful), that's where I'll stay again.

You must be seriously rich to have stayed there. I've visited it when staying with my uncle in Dubai and to be honest although it's an amazing structure, it lacked any soul for me... it was garish wealth, rather than classy. Much prefer an old hotel with classic sophistication and charm.

Well I'd prefer to stay away from the heat to be honest, if I could afford to go somewhere right now (which I can't) I'd like to go somewhere like this:

each of the 57 rooms has its own butler who is "available" on a 24/7 basis actually. If I'm not mistaken, the GM is german.
If its better? One has to go and check I guess. At least I've heard since they are there the beach is cleaner at Coral Bay.....

It is stunning... hope to go back one day and the owners are really nice folks too... best thing is the view from the balconies of the rooms, at dawn and dusk it's something else.
