Simply because u dont have an RSS 'reader'. Try subscribing to bloglines its fast and simple.

Personaly I prefer a stand alone newsreader programe. I am using a free program called feedreader http://www.feedreader.com/ that does the job. I really would urge everyone to try this out. Once you start using RSS feeds you wont go back

here is a screenshot of my feedreader screen

Once it is set up it will list all the new threads to the forum all in a row. So instead of comming to the site and then working you way through each of the forum sections and threads that have new posts you get a list of the headings and then can quickly scan those you are interested in. With this particular client (feedreader) if you set it to update the feed from cyprus talks to say 'every 5 mins' than as new posts come into the forum a little pop up shows you they are there and you can review them without having to open your browser at all. You only need to actually go to the forum if you want to reply. Then you can add any ofther feeds from sites you are interested in. Like have BBC news and Guardian feeds on mine in sceenshot above. So from one central screen I can see if there are any new items on talkcyprus forum, bbc website and guardian site - with it giving me little pop ups when any new 'news' comes in from any of these.

It's well worth the effort of downloading a reader programme and setting it up in my opinion. Go on give it a try :)

Erol, I've downloaded Feedreader, but don't know which url to type in to get it to link to this site. I've tried the standard site address and no joy... any advice?

so its basically like the forum in an "outlook express/eudora/netscape mail" kind of way...

is it a pain to add this thing (problems removing it, spyware) or is it safe?

The basic url to use is www.talkcyprus.org/rss.php

some variations are

www.talkcyprus.org/rss.php?t=1

this will just give the first post of new threads

or

www.talkcyprus.org/rss.php?f= (then a number)

the number is the number of a particular topic area - like cyprus problem discussion area is 3

This way you can set up multiple entries for each area that you are interested in

It is easy to add (install) it and remove it. It contains no spyware. It is safe and very useful.

Given that it is natively supported by an OS (Safari in Mac OS X) and the sky has not fallen in yet, it must be safe! Firefox also supports it, in a very similar way to Safari.

That said, dedicated RSS readers - as opposed to support in browsers - are the way to go if you find RSS useful, and NetNewsWire must be the best £14 I have ever spent; a brilliant RSS reader.

(I posted all that for the benefit of the three other Mac OS X users ;) )
