''CYPRUS sits equal 13th with seven other countries on medal table at the 18th Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
Yesterday, a Turkish Cypriot member of the Cyprus team at the Commonwealth Games came seventh in the Men’s 94kg Weightlifting competition in Melbourne.
Can Osman, 24, lifted 130kg in the Snatch and 163kg in the Clean and Jerk for a combined total of 293kg.
Speaking from Melbourne, Director of the Cyprus Olympic Committee, Evelina Georgiades, told the Cyprus Mail that, “it is a very respectable result, considering the world-class athletes he was up against.”
She added that it was “great to have both Greek and Turkish Cypriots in the team”.
It’s not the first time that a Turkish Cypriot has represented Cyprus, with Osman also forming part of the team at last year’s Mediterranean Games in Almeira, Spain.''
