|
|
Why do you all mention Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots what about the Aussie Cypriots, English Cypriots, Canadian Cypriots, American Cypriots and the others:
Shouldn't we have a say?
Shouldn't we have a identity?
Are we less Cypriot than you guys?
If we are to split Cyprus in half with ethnic identities why not be TRUTHFUL and have a proper Cyprus that Represents all the Ethnic identities and not the 2 who this they can just be our masters.
Make our decisions:
Tell us what is good for us:
Represent OUR needs:
So lets make it fair there are some who are not born in Greece OR Turkey but want to be known as Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots and other who are born in foreign countries to Cypriot parents who must take the Greek Cypriot & Turkish Cypriot identity. WHY?
Cheers from the Aussie Cypriots! A/C!!!
Come on A/C Come on Come on! |

Beautifully incisive as ever, DP.
I believe the collective term for such overseas Anglophone Cypriots is 'Charlies'. They serve a vital function in Cypriot affairs as people to be patronised because of their limited command of the languages of Greece/Turkey [delete as applicable] and to be told, in a hheavy Cypriot accent, that:
"You jas don understan', re... you jas don understan'!"
I believe this gives many 'Greek'/'Turkish' [delete as applicable] Cypriots educated on the island comfort, as they have someone to look down on, in the same way as, sadly, their respective 'motherlands' tend to look down on them. |

Billies, Markettes....
And then theres London Cypriot kids who call us Bubbles, Grebs etc.
Yes, our diaspora is something to be proud of and they have much to offer, Peter Andre excluded. As a Cypriot perspective, however, I have had the 'pleasure' of many London Cypriots telling me how we should run our affairs etc etc.
Its a fine balance |

So do we get our own seat in the NEW Government?
What do you think?
Why do the G/C & the T/C in Cyprus have to speak for US:
Beside I think we see things more realistically and equal then them anyway:
cheers
PS That goes for the settlers as well:
PS PS: In 1976 my cousins calling me Kanagrootha: |

So the perspective of such people may be worth considering on occasion. |

I love discussing Cyprus with north london Cypriots. You can show them up so easily becuase they know nothing.
Greek Cypriot's say Turks invaded Cyprus (and I quote) ''coz dey gay/pricks/idiots''
Turkish Cypriot's say Turks invaded Cyprus (I also quote) ''coz Cyprus is turkish innit''
They make me laugh   |

Most of the generation from around 1974 are so bitter and twisted that its impossible to even mention another side of the arguement. The youth know absolutely nothing and the 40-20 year olds were too busy poncing of their parents money to pay attention to Cyprus.
Its a sad state of affairs to be honest. I only know about 4 people you can sit down and have a level discussion with, regarding Cyprus. Please invite the ones to join the forum |

Cypriot- yes, multi ethnic London works EXTREMELY well.
I grew up with a lot of kids who came back to Cy with their families during the recession, and a lot were/are very good friends of mine.
SOME complain about stuff though and think because they were brought up in Crouch End that everyone in Cyprus is still as developed as their father's or grandfather's co villagers in the 60's.
Incidentally, my London Cypriot peers fascinate me. A lot are VERY English (which is logical) but have some OOOOOLD Cypriot mentalities which flew out of the window in Cy a while back.
London Cypriots are also responsible for cabbage in souvlakia. |

For me souvlakia can go 2 ways. The old skool village way of mydano(green leafy thing) a few sheftalies and some one with loads of lemon
OR
The modern day tomato cuecumber and garlic sauce. |
