Naturally people respond differently in heated debates, while some are indirectly rude and insulting to another member, by calling him/her "immature", "mad", or "crazy", others may respond by swearing.
Indirect swearing is generally considered acceptable but personally I do not believe one is worser than the other; I think they are equally as bad depending of course on how they are used. Indirect swearing may look very diplomatic to some but it is just as provocative if you bother to interpret what is really being said.
Frankly, I value directness. I get just as offended by indirect attacks on my character than swearing. If somebody said "Bullika your reality challenged rhetoric is a microcosmic example of how mentally challenged you are and the degree to which you remain factually unencumbered" I would feel offended by this because I understand only too well as a native English speaker what this verbal diarrhea means.
I withdraw my support to ban direct swearing, in the case of provocation. On reflection I do not feel you can punish those members who swear because they do not wish to play a very middle class game of trading indirect and hidden insults should have a right to respond in their own way. |

I dont like too many specifics when it comes to forum conduct. A general rule of "please be polite to other members and dont swear" would cover most of what your saying.
This more or less covers me also. Ppl should be mindful of other members, and moderate their own posts if they went overboard in a "moment of drama" ... otherwise, us mods/admins should step in and move the "guilty post" to quarantine. |

International rules for broadcasting do not permit swearing, nor the use of airwaves to conduct messages which may be threatening to others. We, in essense, broadcast on this forum, and therefore are limited by this rule.
Really, I don't see this as an issue, because so far the material is treated with emotion, and passion, but it is very less often filled with things said that people regret having read.
If it is necessary to have a rule, then the quarentine can provide the forum a way, for those who wish to practice blasphemy, in debate. As for voting, I would like to see the forum members electing, as a majority, statements which could be published as our collective opinion, and our contribution to those whose interest, toward a settlement, depends on having clear observations, analysis and conclusions, at that point, a vote to sanction members may have a value. |
