A hat-trick occurs in cricket when a bowler dismisses three batsmen with consecutive deliveries. The deliveries may be interrupted by an over bowled by another bowler from the other end of the pitch or the other team's innings, but must be three consecutive deliveries by the individual bowler. Only wickets attributed to the bowler count, i.e. run outs do not contribute to a hat-trick.

therefore: The first wicket was taken on the last ball of an over...

The next over was from the other end by a different bowler.

On the first ball of the next over, the bowler took another wicket which was also the last wicket of the opposing team....

The opposing team followed on and the bowler on a hat trick was the first bowler to be used....he took a wicket with his first ball of the first over.

Almost. I did say that no other bowler sent down a delivery while the hat-trick was taken. The part of a "different bowler" in your answer is wrong but you are very close.

The only other scenario I can think of would be as follows:

With the last ball of the day the bowler takes a wicket.

At the restart the following day the same bowler opens the bowling and with the first ball takes the final wicket.

The opposing team follow on and again he opens the bowling and takes a wicket....Hat trick

I think this would be allowed under the rules......

That's what I have down. When I first heard this puzzle I was told this was allowed but I beleive the rule has know been changed.
