Do you like Sushi? I discovered a place in Picadilly, "the Japanese Centre", where in the basement of this building is a Japanese supermarket complete with baskets and japanese staff. They sell packets of 10 sushi pieces for as little as £1.15p. I couldnt believe it! I thought I was in Sushi heaven! :D

Sushi never really appealled to me. Its just a mini meal that is tenth of the substance of a real meal and double the price.

Large Pork with all the trimings :D :D

Wow! (makes grab for Oystercard ...)

I am very keen on sushi (rather surprisingly, as I come from a culinary tradition of "fling it in a pan and boil it to death") and it really annoys me how much bad sushi there is. Companies like M&S and Sainsbury ask £4+ for 10 pieces which taste of cardboard :(

thebrix i guarantee you will love this place. I found it by accident, it is designed more for the japanese, but it sells about 30 different types of sushi, eat in a packet of 10/ 12 or more for prices starting from £1.15 but no more than £3, unless its an expensive fish.

(thebrix rolls on back like spaniel)

One of my two great food weaknesses. (The other is dried fruit. There is no muesli or similar in our house; if there was I would sift out all the fruit on-the-fly and leave the cereal behind ...)

I went to a lebanese falafel bar called Mahfouz in Soho once. I had salad there and tried this strange looking pink thig. It was a pickled vegetable. I dont know what it was but it was tasty. It looked like a baby aubergine, but it was very small and roundish. im trying to find a shop that sells it so i can buy a jar or 12 but it doesnt help when you dont know the name.

when i asked the guy who worked there his english was poor so i gave up.

the best way to tell fs a restaurant is good, is when you see the 'nationals' of the foods origin eating regualry in the restaurant (say, chinese people in a chinese restaurant) it means the food is real..like at home!

Yes absolutely, this place was positively teething with Japanese people speaking in Japanese.

Okay guys no need to travel into town to try good reasonable sushi, if you live in North London try Oriental City between Edgware and Hendon. The food hall is a must if you love everything oriental, it has Chinese, Malaysian, Thai, Japanese, Indonesian the lot and you can tell its good because on a Sunday lunch time it is full on Orientals. The drinks are fantastic plus it’s cheap as well. It’s a large food hall with kiosks around the outside of the different cuisines. You go to the different ones you like, order your food and you get given a number, when your number is called you collect your food and enjoy. The nice thing is because it is so cheap you can try loads of variations and if you don’t like it you can try something else. The last time I went I tried chili chickens feet, yum.
There is also a great supermarket where you can pick up loads of oriental ingredients.
