|
|
We have recently had some posts that are 'advertisments' on the forum. Currently the only rule relating to this is
"Blatant spam advertising will not be deemed acceptable."
However I think we need to (collectively) decide how we want posted ads handled in the forum. The options I see are
1. No advertisments are allowed - full stop.
2. Any advertisments are allowed (in the right area of the forum and provided they are not repeatedly posted)
3. Personal ads are allowed (like I have some old comics for sale) but commercial advertisments are not (use company X)
In addition to this there is also the issue of advertismnts in people signatures or in the using of their profile 'URL' setting to link to a commercial site - a kind of form of advertising.
As ever I would stress that (as far as I am concerned anyway) the forum is not MY forum but OUR forum so please get invloved here and have your say about how you think adverts should to be handled on YOUR forum.
I will not set up a poll just yet, because I may have missed some 'options' in the list above. Once the discussion has (hopefully) helped defined what the options should be we can have a vote and start to implement any new policy.
Thanks. |

My opinion Erol no ads...You do not want to attract that sort of traffic in coming and going...They will always need monitoring 24/7. |

This one I think should be allowed in a "Personal Ads" partition of the forum. It could be quite amusing ...
Certainly commercial ads should be banned, if only because the poster shows no imagination in just plastering them everywhere. (No insult intended, but I can think of lots of better places to put adverts than talkcyprus.org!) |

| Option 3 seems feasable only to me and all commercial adverts should be banned. |

| Option #3. No COMMERCIAL ADS WHATSOEVER. My 2 cents worth. |

I think this issue deserves some more thought. For instance, what is a "commercial ad"?
- If a real estate agent posts an ad for a couple of houses sold by his office, but he doesn't say so, is this a commercial ad, or a personal ad?
- If someone suggests that people to use a certain ISP he/she likes, without being affiliated with that ISP, is this a commercial ad? |

So, should we erase this thread, in your opinion?

No.
Are you serious or just Greek?
Why do you consider this as an advertisement? Who is profiting? Anyone on the forum? This is just advise. Big difference. Why do you love to split hairs on this forum? |

Tufan, I'm only trying to point out that things may not be as simple as they seem. It's going to be really rough for moderators to diferentiate between ads versus non-ads, and commercial ads versus non-commercial ads.
I apologise for saying that "are you serious or just plain Turkish" thing yesterday. I admit I got a little over-excited at the time. I'm not going to take any of my logical arguments back of course, just this rough, counter-productive sentense. |

Gary Panter:
Quote: Texas-born illustrator, painter, designer and part-time musician, Gary Panter is a child of the ’50s who blossomed in the full glare of the psychedelic ’60s and, after surviving underground during the ’70s, finally made his mark in the ’80s as head set designer for the successful kid/adult TV show Pee Wee’s Playhouse, a job which brought his jagged art and surreal cartoon ideas into the homes of America and bagged him three Emmy Awards. With Pee Wee, Panter created another world, a fantasy extension of his natural studio habitat which was constructed out of a collection of garbage and buried treasure. In the same way that Francis Bacon surrounded himself with images that inspired him to carve out his grotesques in oil paint, so Panter gathered around himself the rubble of his childhood to create Pee Wee and the host of lovable (yet strange) characters which inhabit his Playhouse.
