Oh Yeah!

It's not just images anymore: Now, you can use Google to search for video clips. All are converted into FLV format, so they should be playable from any computer, anywhere, without additional software.

I like this one:

Thanks for your interest in Google Video.

Currently, the playback feature of Google Video isn't available in your country.

We hope to make this feature available more widely in the future, and we really appreciate your patience.

I checked in their legal papers, and they don't say anything about restricting playback to certain countries. Maybe you should try to contact them?

It's about Turkish Firemen practising their "skills" but it turns into a disaster..

I also have this problem because my sat based internet connection downlinks in Germany - and thus I appear to google to be in Germany.

However I was not going to let that stop me :)

I could have used a proxy server to make it look like I was in say the UK (if the proxy server was based there) but thats a pain, and it doesn't help city , or any other german members either.

So I noticed the 'link code' to the left of the google video page telling me I can not view the video. I wondered if that link was placed on a UK server, and then I viewed it from that sever, would I be able to see it. The answer was yes I could.

So then I thought wouldn't it be a useful 'feature' for the site if our german users could copy and paste such google video links in their onw posts and then use that link on the forum to 'get round' not being able to view the video directly via google.

Here is where it started to get complicated :)

I did not want to just allow the necessary html tags directly to be allowed (object, embed and param) for various reason, and anyway when I tried that it did not work. However there was a mod that created a bbcode tag for 'flash' content. So I have now installed that. In short if your take out of the google video 'link' code the 'right bit' and use that with the new bbcode flash tag in theory you should be able to embed a google video clip into a forum post AND it should be viewable by those with a German IP address. In practice it would appear to work in Firefox but not IE.

So here goes, for firefox users, even ones with german IP's below should be the said video clip (which is very funny imho).

Still bemused why it is not working in IE - but working on that. Hope to get it fixed in IE as well.

Enjoy the video clip city (hopefully) :)
