For info
It looks like a new version of phpBB has been released today :(
I will wait a while, see what the changes are and then make a decision as to if to upgrade or not. |

I've been toying with the idea of moving on from phpBB, purely because of all the upgrades and security patches being released. Haven't even added any Mods yet because of all these releases by phpBB.
On another messageboard that I run, I use the SMF board which is very impressive and a portal system that has blown my socks away.
www.schoolbreeze.net/index.php (Portal system)
www.schoolbreeze.net/footyportal (The SMF Messageboard). It was originally a phpBB forum but converted it to SMF which was very easy to do. I have several skins installed, so don't take much notice of the colours. Its what the members wanted lol.
I'm not trying to spam btw, its just perhaps if Erolz was as annoyed as me at the amount of updates and patches coming out, he may want an alternative. |

OK
I have updated the forum to the latest version (2.0.19)
Everything _seems_ to have gone OK.
If anyone notices anything strange or not working properly over next few days , please let me know
Thanks |

One small note re the upgrade.
One of the new security features is the ability to limit the number of time an incorrect login password can be entered for a user, setting a time before login can be retired again, when this number has been passed.
Basically this limits attempts to (auotmatically) keep trying one password after another, without limit.
I have set the valuse to 3 and 60, which means if you fail to enter your login password correctly 3 times in a row, you will not be able to try again for 60 minutes from the last attempt.
Just so you know. |
