My belief is that a forum does not have to be run on totalitarian lines. Many people think I am wrong about this and argue that the only realitic way is for a moderated forum to work is for the the mods/admins decisions to be final and for all public discussion of moderating decisions to be banned. This is they way most moderatoed forums are run. Given recent events if may well be that my idealistic notion that a moderated forum can be run in a more open and less totalitarian way may be just that an idealistic notion and not a realistic one at all :(

Despite the much thankless, tedious and time consuming work this entails I still wish to try and run the forum on the basis that it is OUR forum and not MY forum.

So in this vein and following a complaint of 'bias' being made against me and my judgements I am going to spend more of my time and effort to seek the views of the forum memebership on this issue. The issue is as follows

Boomerang made a post to another user that said

I informed Boomer that this was unacceptable under the rules on abuse and quarantined this post.

Boomer has now edited the post instead to read

The decision I have made so far is that boomerangs edited post is still unacceptable and PAuls is (just barely) on the other side of the line. My reasonsing is that PAul's post is not just an insult of the poster i refers too, but is based on the actually discussion itslef and what thisprson has said (namley that they have only even called non cypriots evil and never cypriots). Boomerangs post on the other hand was originally just a straigh and direct insult (calling the other person wanker) and not related to what the postyer had actually said in the way PAuls does. Boomer feels that I am being unfair and showing bias to PAul because he 'supports' my side and that either hispost should be restored, or PAuls also quarantined. I fully accept that this is a fine judgement call. PAuls post is imo only just saved by it's realtionship to what was actualy said.

In an effort to try an pratice my ideals of the forum belonging to the memebrs then, I have created this post and am seeking input from any who wish to make it. If there is a clear majority in favour of PAuls post alos being quarantined (after people have had a chance to comment, should they wish too) I will abide by this collective will.

However I have to say here and now, the extent to which this forum can realisticaly be run in such an inclusive way is DIRECTLY related to how forum memebers choose to behave. Ultimately if forum members are going to challenge every judgement call of mods and admins, to the extent that it takes hours and days of debate and wrangling and editing of posts to just sneak under an 'acceptable' threashold and editing posts specifically to mimic wording in other peoples to get them quarantined as well, then it will NOT BE POSSIBLE to continue to run the forums in this way. It is a simple as that. Either we will have to chose to have no moderation, and chaos will evetually break out, or we will have to run the forum in the most usual way for a moderated forum. Namely with the mods /admins in a totalitarian postion, with their decsions as final and all public discussion of these decisions banned explicitly in the rules. I would had to see this become necessary, but the reality is, it is in the nads of you the members as to if this becomes necessary or not and ultimately it is in the nads of amsall minority of memebers should they choose to push this issue to it's limits :(

With all due respect to our valuable forum member Boomer, I do not feel that PAul's post should be quarintined. PAul was a sking a specific question on a relative thread to a person that was presumably posting racially charged comments. This is not tantamount to insult but a legitimate question about another member's political, social and moral views. If you take away basic rights to ask other members simple questions like these I'll be packing up shop and I bet many others would follow. This is a forum where we should be able to question, discuss, debate, argue, complain with a large amount of freedom of speech and opinion so that we may learn and decide.

In fairness to Kifeas and Boomer, they should be allowed to voice their opinions on forum members without the interference of admin or mods as long as they do not stoop to profane name calling or blatant incindiary racist remarks like some members degenerate to. If someone thinks my post is "idiotic" I believe, with every atom of my being, that they should be able to say so. If the debate gets out of hand then you and the mods must step in. Anything else is a complete waste of your time and actually is counterproductive because it makes mountains out of molehills and wears you out.

In addition, I have a lot of respect for the core members of this forum. They are decent people with values and respect for other people's feelings and opinions. I have seen many times when non mods correct new comers to the site in a polite way and most new ones swiftly comply. Once in a while arguements will erupt and things may get out of hand, but that's human nature. Especially Mediterranean human nature 8) .
Don't get me wrong, I am not asking for a free-for-all but don't take the salt and pepper out of the discussions. That's my story and I'm stickin to it. 8)

Just as a neutral party, I read the thread that EZ locked and again with all due respect my friend I do not see any concrete evidence that PAul is indeed Brian Semmens. I think perhaps that your questions probably confused him and he was replying to you the best way he knew.

Believe me, I have compared the language and tone that PAul and Brian have used in their posts and have come to the conclusion that they are two different people indeed or PAul has got me very much fooled in which case I am ready to eat some humble pie.

Apart from the last few days we have pretty much never had any problems.


A mods decision is final. If the person feels hard done by tough. If YOU feel that the mod is wrong then you can sort it. If they dont like i suggest www.cyprus-forum.com

I didn;t want to respond and wanted Erol to examine but I feel that Tufan deserves an explanation for my action...

Thanks for your input Tufan, but I think if you look closely at his opening post and the tone you will find that it is the same person...I put it down to the fact that as Brian he found the going tough and he thought by coming back as Paul is to have a clean start...This I can accept.

Secondly if you look at the reply he gave me you will see that not only he knew what I was talking about but he actually replied in the same way as Brain would, the pettition...He actually asked if there were any other clues...Clues to what Tufan?...How would he have known as to what I was talking about?...He is either a long distance mind reader or Brian...I put it down to Brian...He didn't question it at all...Wouldn't you ask what I was talking about?...I would?

And another point that comes to mind, If Brian and Paul are different people, wouldn't their posts overlap?...But instead on takes off where the other one finishes.

And final point Tufan, why this individual does not respond to these allegations?...There has been another thread, Enemy of my country, prior to this, where he was asked to clear the air...He refused to do so, but in the same thread he did make a comment...
