In the Annan plan there was something about the teaching of Greek and Turkish to every Cypriot pupil. I dont know exactly what idea Annan had, he didnt specify, but it was one of the few ideas of the plan that stayed in my mind.

I am curious as to how many of us here from the two communities would learn each others language if Cyprus was reunited and bilingualism was introduced in our schools for our children and it became a requirement for entry into civil service as in countries like Switzerland and Belgium. I certainly would learn Greek, in fact I am presently learning Greek.

i fully support bilinguallism...and would argue, that cyprus should have trilingualism...by including the already widely used, and ecnomically important english language.

i would say four, have in the north, gibrizlija and turkish with english. and in the south greek and english.

yes but the greek cypriots dont feel so cypriot as we do, i can only speak for my own people and i think we should declare our own language and keep turkish too.

yes but unfortunetely depurple most people in your community and some in mine dont see it that way. people still have this anachronistic notion that we are turkish speaking therefore we are turks, that we are greek speaking therefore we are greek. i lose hope in humanity sometimes i really do.

i will have to differ with you here memo, Greek Cypriots would consider themselves cypriot, rather than greek. There are differences between the two...and i for one, am proud to be different to 'greeks'

that may be in the diaspora, rather than the 'proper' cypriots themeslves. I think the nationalist thing only really comes out in things like rallies/protests/sports. Hopefully it will change one day soon :D
