"North says it has 30,000 legal Turkish workers"
http://www.cyprus-mail.com/news/main.php?id=21349&cat_id=1
From my personal subjective experience this clamp down on illegal (unregistered) workers has made an impact here in the north. It has also gone some way to slowing the explosive building and construction boom post the annan plan vote.
I welcome these moves and think the authorites here have been too lax on workers from Turkey in the past. I hope it is also an indication that the current admin here is different from those of the past in deeds as well as words. |

| Erol, since you live in Kyrenia you might know this. Have many of the thousands of illegal workers who were recently shipped out of the north returned? A huge wave of them left very recently, how many are returning with newly renewed visas? |

To be honest it is hard to know. Certainly when this clampdown first started , many many people in the North were commenting along the lines of 'have you noticed how quiet / how little construction is going on'?
This is still a topic of discussion but less so today and there does seem to be a slow increase in the resumption of building work. As for actual numbers I really can not say. |

| Its just a ploy to make legal the hordes in the eyes of the international community and if a solution does happen to drop on our laps from the heavens then it will be easier to get rid of some of them, that is if they have been there less than 5 years by then they will have the right to apply for residency i hear. |
