From Bayrak News.

Quote: Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES “BOSTANCI CHECKPOINT TO BE OPENED ON 31ST OF THIS MONTH”…

Giving details of the topics on the Council’s agenda, the Prime Minister also referred to the ongoing speculations about whether or not the Bostanci checkpoint would be opened soon.

He said the government has now decided to open the checkpoint to cross border traffic as of the end of this month.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Prime Minister said the decision came after consultations with President Mehmet Ali Talat, and, as an attempt to disprove the Greek Cypriot leader Mr Tasos Papadopulos who claimed earlier that “the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President has no power to negotiate anything, or even - open a single check-point” between the two sides.

Mr Soyer added that media representatives - as well as – nongovernmental organizations and citizens would be invited to the checkpoint to see for themselves the work completed there to facilitate the envisaged cross border traffic between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and South Cyprus.

Can anyone tell me where Bostanci is in Greek Cypriot terms?

I think bostanci in Turkish means the place where water melons are grown (correct me if I am wrong). Zodhia was renoun for its water melons as far as I can remember.

This makes sense but I dont know if this is true. But not necessarily melon, it can be cucumber as well

Also, it is the first place to be given back to Greek Cypriot in a possible agreement.

Actually, the best cucumber growing area in Cyprus is a place called Chloraka, in Paphos. Paphians are very proud of their cucumbers, but I have never seen those great big cucumbers that I remember buying in England. In this case however, you can be sure size does not matter. Chloraka cucumbers may be small in statue but they taste deliciously and if combined with a glass of ouzo, they are almost God sent ...

The cucumbers in england are plain water. They dont give any taste I mean. But I think angolem which is very close to bostanci btw produces all the best in cyprus I heard.
