I spoke to Erol8) and he says that this is how it is meant to be. My unread threads are orange. If i was to log off without reading them, then log back on they are no longer orange.

I always remember them staying orange until they have been read. This is since the 'new' forum.

Is it just me?

Wel,, ihave to turn off my computer at some point during my life!!! (like when i go to bed!)

Even if i close the Internet window, if i try to log back on, i loose any chance of finding what ive read or not, cos the orange lights ahve all dissappeared. :(

Its not my fault :(

Because there is an automated logout period when you stay inactive for a certain period of time. Like if you have to work a little bit in between.....

I never had this like that. Once you log out and then login again, everything will be marked "read". No orange anymore. That was also the case in the old version of the forum and also on any other php forum I know....

Thats what I mean. Threads are only marked "unread" when you login. Once you have logged out and then logged in again the orange will be gone. Hold on a moment - there was something Erol suggested, I'll go have a look.....

Just to recap the forum does NOT keeptrack of which posts you have read or not for you.

What it does (if it is working) is notify you how many posts have been created since your last loggin and mark these with orange icons. In database temrs it does a simple match between the last logged in date for a users and the creation date of posts.

If the forum is not doing the above then you need to check a couple of things. Firstly make sure you are comming to the site with the right URL and not the old ones - this is especially true if you use bookmarks/favourites/shourtcuts to come to the forum. The correct URL will have /forum in it after the talkcyprus.org bit.

The second thing to try if it is still not working as above is to clear the cookies that realte to this site. In firefox you can do this within the browser selecting tools-options-privacy-cookies-view cookies and finding the entries that relate to the site www.talkyprus.org. For IE you can either delete all your cookies (but this will affect other sites you visit) or delete the talkcyprus cookies manualy by finding the cookies directroy that realtes to your user id and searching for www.talkcyprus.org cookies. The path / filename will be something like this (but not exactly like this)

G:\Documents and Settings\erol\Cookies\erol@www.talkcyprus[2].txt

One way to 'manage' viewing new posts is when visiting the forum to open browser windows for any sections that have new posts, and to leave this windows open until you have visted all the new post you are interested in. You can do this by not clicking on the threads shown as new but right clicking and opening them in a new window. Thus you leave the browser window that listed them alone until you have visited those you wish to see. This will work even if you 'time out' re being logged in. As long as you do not click away from these browser windows or close them then they will still show those thrreads that were new at the time you opened them.

Hope that helps a bit
