So, we all had fun with the flags.... even if we are not agreed at the moment.
But now, what should the cyprus national anthem be in a newly united cyprus?
At the moment, its the same as the greek one .
i think it should have one verse in greek and one in turkish. Thats just my opinion.
Any ideas people? |

I'm sure AKEL and possibly CTP would agree to this one...
Quote: Arise ye workers from your slumbers
Arise ye prisoners of want
For reason in revolt now thunders
And at last ends the age of cant.
Away with all your superstitions
Servile masses arise, arise
We'll change henceforth the old tradition
And spurn the dust to win the prize.
So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale unites the human race.
So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale unites the human race.
No more deluded by reaction
On tyrants only we'll make war
The soldiers too will take strike action
They'll break ranks and fight no more
And if those cannibals keep trying
To sacrifice us to their pride
They soon shall hear the bullets flying
We'll shoot the generals on our own side.
No saviour from on high delivers
No faith have we in prince or peer
Our own right hand the chains must shiver
Chains of hatred, greed and fear
E'er the thieves will out with their booty
And give to all a happier lot.
Each at the forge must do their duty
And we'll strike while the iron is hot.

I think the Internationale has different roots. The socialist movements just adopted it....

| I think that there should be no words. Just an old man on a bouzouki. |

Nope, same as the Republic of Cyprus in using the anthem of the 'motherland' |

:? I didn't know that neither of the parts had its own anthem...
I like CTDs suggestion, but it should be a mix of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot music. |

To be honest, i think Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot music are almost, if not exactly, the same. Many folk music tunes are the same, andsomeahave similar names.
I think the anthem should have one greek verse and one turkish verse, after all, it wouldnot be aproblem if children(and thus the future nation) are tought both greek and turkish to a good standard |

This is the lyrics of a famous poem written by Leonidas Malenis and set to music by Mikis Theodorakis that would have been a perfect choice for a Cypriot national anthem. I have the mp3 of this song as it is sung by George Dalaras and if anyone is interested in listening I will be more than happy to send to them by e-mail.
The lyrics are in Greek but in Latin characters and below is a free translation that I made for this purpose.
Greek words wrote: CHRISOPRASINO FILLO
Gie tis lemonias, tis elias
Gie tis aggalias, tis charas
Gie tou pevkou, tou kiparissiou
Ton pallikarion ke tis agapis
Chrisoprasino fillo
rigmeno sto pelagos
********
Gie tou kseramenou livadiou
Gie tis pikramenis Panayias
Gie tou Liva, t’ adikou chamou
T’ agriou kerou, ton ifestion
Chrisoprasino fillo
rigmeno sto pelagos
********
Gie ton koritsion pou geloun
Gie ton agorion pou methoun
Gie tou mirou, tou cheretismou
Kipros tis agapis kai tou oneirou
Chrisoprasino fillo
rigmeno sto pelagos
**
Chrisoprasino fillo
rigmeno sto pelagos
English translation wrote: GOLDEN -GREEN LEAF
Land of lemon and olive tree
Land of hug and joy
Land of pine and cypress,
of brave youth and affection
Golden-green leaf
cast into the ocean
**********
Land of dried meadow
Land of embittered Madonna
Land of livas and wrongful loss
Of fierce times and volcanoes
Golden-green leaf
cast into the ocean
*********
Land of laughing girls
Land of elating boys
Land of scent and salute
Cyprus of love and vision
Golden-green leaf
cast into the ocean
**
Golden-green leaf
cast into the ocean
