Looks very interesting and worthwhile (and also a good place to hand out some leaflets for the cemetary clean up effort ;) )

I will try and get along and give a summary - of that which I am able ti understand if it is not in english.

Thanks for the heads up Moose.

I went there all armed with flyers for upcomming cemetery clean up and little talkcyprus 'business cards' all printed up and ready.

And I could not find any meeting at all :(

I found the Goethe Zentrum (German language insitiuite) and enquired of a nice lady in the building about the meeting and she new nothing about it and suggested it might be in the fullbright building next door (it wasn't). I was a little early it must have been about 5.30 or 5.45 pm but still.

So a bit disapointing really :(

Did Cyprus today get the dates wrong? Was the woman who advised me mistaken? Who knows?

Really disappointed to hear that Erol, and for your wasted journey... I've rechecked the Cyprus Today site and here's the ad for it...

Quote: The initiative for the setting up of a coalition against discrimination, consisting of 12 Turkish-Cypriot and Greek-Cypriot organisations, invites all NGOs and persons active or interested in combating discrimination, to a meeting for the purpose of setting up a Pancyprian confederation of all organisations against discrimination on the ground of gender, racial or ethnic origin, disability, sexual orientation, religion, age etc.

The meeting will be held at the Goethe Zentrum (in the buffer zone, next to the Ledra Palace) on Tuesday 8th November 2005 at 18 hrs and is open for all those who want to fight against discrimination.

So, either the meeting was cancelled without notice, or the date is wrong... it might be worth dropping Cyprus Today an email or phone call and asking them.

I gave a quick call to the Goethe-centre (they are not listed on their international website :-( ) and found out the following:

The group that was discussing the issue of setting up the mentioned initiative is called "reconciliation" and they meet on a regular monthly basis. The Goethe centre only provides the room for the meeting. Yesterdays meeting took place but obviously a bit delayed. About 10 people from various initiatives/groups took part.

The lady in charge of the meeting is a Greek Cypriot, her name is Corinna and she can be reached via email oflamcy(at)logosnet(dot)cy(dot)net

phone-nr. of the Goethe centre: 22-674608

note: I did not speak to Corinna, but a friendly lady from the Goethe centre gave me the above information.
