| I can't see a map of cyprus on the home page or a link leading to one. I think it would be a good idea to post a good quality map for those new comers to view if they should so desire. If there is one on the site already and I just happen to be blind so sorry. |

| I've got one, but it's absolutely huge (4.7MB), so Erol would need to host it, it's too big to fit on xs.to or another picture sharing site. I'll try to reduce it down a bit and see what I can do. |

| I've downsized it to fit in the 'contemporary images of Cyprus' photo album. Not sure how clear it will be. Hopefully Erol will give us some guidance if he wants to host the full-size version (which is v.detailed). |

| Hosting a 4.7MB file should not be a problem. I am not quite so sure about the map though. "Area inaccessable because of invading Turkish forces" seems a little 'political' to me for an 'offical' site map ? Also one that had both Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot names for the north would be useful. |

| I can always photoshop out that text Erol... as for dual names, I haven't yet found a decent map that shows both |

Well perhaps what we should do is take mooses map, remove the move 'political' descriptions on it, add the alternative names in the North (not as a political statment but just to increase it's utitlity*) and make that a site resource.
I guess my main concern with doing this would be the copyright issues of the ownership of the orignal map, but we could just 'forget' this at least if and until someone complaines I guess?
* When setting up my satelite here in the north and comfriming with my provider my longitude and latitude settings, we had no end of problems. They kept saying are you near such and such a place and I had to reply, I am not sure because I do not know such and such a place under that name. Quite frustrating really. |

I've got one that has both names for places in the north.
But to make it a nice one that can be shown online it needs to be scanned and photoshoped (weird word :? ) |

I checked that map and I'm afraid it would not work by scanning it.
There is the whole island on the back cover of the book, but thats to small and the more detailed one is printed on several pages _in_ the book. So that can't even be scanned properly.
Apart from that there might be a copyright issue as this book is a travel-guide from Marco Polo. :-( |

copy right is always going to be an issue :(
There is a (german - not that that makes any difference) genetleman in the north that produces and sells his own road maps of North Cyprus and had copyright on these.
I have considered approaching him and seeing if he would be intrested in the idea of licsensing the map for use on this forum, for a reasonable price. He may be against the idea because it is impossible to totlay stop such an image being used to print out copies of the map (and thus hurting his sales of it) but then again he might see some value in it if we could agree a price and I amde so that it was not easy to download the image (would have to screen captured rather than saved).
However even if he was amenable to the idea and did not want to charge more than we could afford that would only give us a legal map of the north. |

Is this one any better... shows buffer zone, but without any text relating to occupation or Turkish forces... would also be easier to photoshop to include some Turkish names of towns in the north...
