Hey anybody wants the most crashing virus ever made?
It will wipe your computer off, but not affect your BIOS. It will then delete itself so it is never detectable.
Btw it was MADE IN CYPRUS.
Did you ever talk on Irc having someone bugging you and sending you viruses? Well send him a photo with this.
In just seconds-"no such user name"
Damn Internet explorer 6 now has some a security update warning for it. My son might have sent it to too many   |

| I must confess that I did not understand a single word of MaC's original post. |

Jimmy a virus is a program.
So do you want a copy of this program?
Careful though if you double click on it you are doomed!

| The current virus only affects win2000 and some older win XP systems that haven't got upgraded |

Man, I know it's a program (although that's ALL I know about viruses). What I didn't understand was what you said in the first post, i.e. when I read the thread title, I assumed you were going to inform us of some new virus going around, what it's called and how we avoid it, etc.
Instead, you said something about sending a photo through irc (?) and something else about your son sending too many (?). These two baffled me! |

There was an exploit found whereby a virus could be run simply by viewing a jpeg image! This exploit has largely been patched up now, though it required you to make sure you had 'fixed' version of many different programs that could view jpegs. So the viewer in things like IE were patched in the normal 'windows update' process. However the exploit could work on other programs that viewed jpegs (like word) and these also need to be patched I think.

Usually most of these things are avoidable when you use a decent virusscanner and do the regular security updates/patches.
Must agree with Jimmy though that I did not really get the meaning of the initial post :-) |

Just for info these are the 'security' programms I use.
Windows firewall
AVG 7 free edition virus scanner
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
Spybot S&D
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Adaware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
as a 'secondary' reource I also use trends online free virus and vulnerability scanner.
http://housecall60.trendmicro.com/en/start_corp.asp
This has a virus scanner but I use it mainly for the 'vulnerability checker'. It takes some time to download intitally and it can be a bit glitchy (when it finished scanning for vulnerabilites it did not load the report page automatically - I had to click cancel and then when it asked for confirmation of the cancel I said cancel again and then it did load the report page)

What is the context of 'exploit' - where have you seen this? |
