If you're in the mood for some light romantic comedy Hitch is the film to see, Will Smith is really good in it and the other chubby guy's brill!!
8/10 on my score board.

@Liza: maybe you should edit the thread's title to 'Movie reviews' so we don't open new threads every time we want to comment on a new movie? We could do it all in here...?

Hitch was excellent. It was just too good for my expectations! Of course, Will Smith and the chubby dude are just minor players - the film's star was Eva Mendes... moose, dude, what chick in King of Queens and stuff? She's the ****!

Also, tonight I watched 'Double Jeopardy', starring Tommy Lee Jones and Ashley Judd. It was really, really, reeeeeeeeeeeeeally lame. Especially Ashley Judd, she made me wonder whether she's ever set foot in an acting class. I'm pretty sure she hasn't.

Other than that, there was this plot-hole that I found particularly amusing: she's accused of murdering her husband, who had a life insurance policy for 2 million bucks, to which she was the beneficiary - the supposed motive on which the murder charge was based. So when she's convicted of the murder, she tells her friend to adopt her kid son, and reassures her that money will be no problem, because the kid is going to get the insurance money in his trust fund. As the film progresses, apparently that is the case.

So my question is this:
WHAT KIND OF INSURANCE COMPANY HAS A LEGAL OBLIGATION TO PAY FOR A DEATH THAT WAS CARRIED OUT IN ORDER TO COLLECT ON THE POLICY (according to the court's decision)? Sounds like fraud to me...

Er I have not seen this film and know nothing about it except what you have written above so I ma be talking rubbish .... but

Could she have not lied to her friend to try and convince her to adopt her kid even though she knew the kid would not get the insurance money but hoped that her friend would not realise this?

Just a thought.

Well, I don't think it could be meant to be seen like that, for three reasons:

a) she is not the conniving, 'bad' character in the film - she is the victim. She didn't murder her husband, she was framed (by him) to appear as though she did.
b) the girl she asked to adopt her son was her best friend. She just wouldn't lie to her.
c) it appears from the way the plot progresses, that the insurance money was, in fact, paid out to the kid's trust fund - and at the same time, her sentence for the murder was fully served...

By the way, these are not spoilers - these issues are revealed early in the movie (so I haven't messed it up for anyone).

Oh, which reminds me: if this is to become the 'Movie review' thread, the rule of thumb is that anyone posting reviews here should take extra care not to reveal important plot twists (spoilers), because people reading here may have not seen the movie. If one must post spoilers, he or she should clearly state it at the beginning of their post in capital letters, so people who wish to watch the film do not read on, if they don't want to.

Yeah I agree. I really hate it when movie trailers contain info that spoils ones enjoyment of the film when you actually see it. This seems to happen more and more frequently these days :(
I have also noticed on books. In one murder mystery I read recently, on the blurb on the back they are advertising the new sequel book and talk about the continued hunt for the murderer. In the book itself fairly near the end you (are supposed) to think that the murder has been caught and killed - yet you know that he can not be because of the 'sales pitch' on the back of the book!

This kinda thing really annoys me.

I don't mind ask Erolz - I think it would get a bit confusing though and you wouldn't have easy access to a review by just picking the title of the thread such as in this case.
