I'm amazed at how internationally famous John Peel was... I respected him certainly for his support of otherwise unhailed artists, but his musical taste was a bit too eclectic even for me... and I pride myself on a broad appreciation of most things musical...

well, maybe my taste is weird as well....but I did not like everything he was playing...

He made bands like Joy Division known to the wider audience, to name just one example, and thats definitely not mainstream. Smile
But I like them a lot!

Apart from that I grew up in Berlin and there you have all the army stations (AFN, BFBS, CFN....)
I'm actually listening to army stations for about 15-20 years, since I started learning English in school. Smile
Nower days its only BFBS though.

Thats why I know him, but I guess other people outside the UK, interested in independent music, will know him as well.
